Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Confirmed: Miguel Tejada traded to the Padres

You'll love San Diego, Miggi. The weather is fabulous.

It's been confirmed by the Padres and Ken Rosenthal, and really, who doesn't trust Ken Rosenthal? Per Dan Connolly it's for a starter and includes money going to the Padres, and it's just pending league approval.

That's all we know for now.

Update (5:45 PM): Dan Connolly now reports that 24 year old RHP Wynn Pelzer is the piece from the Orioles. Pelzer was drafted in the 9th round of the 2007 draft and is coming from AA San Antonio.

Seriously, it's days like these that I love Twitter. It's hysterical. I couldn't even keep up with everything that was being posted.

We get Wynn Pelzer
  1. on Sickels Padres top 20 before the season.

“Wynn Pelzer, RHP, Grade B: A personal favorite, he strikes people out and gets grounders with plus stuff. Really like him a lot.”

In AA this year, Pelzer has 56 walks and 83 strikesouts in 94 1/3 innings.

More on Pelzer from Sickels:

http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/6/18/1524479/morning-notes-june-18-2010

Padres prospect Wynn Pelzer has been one of my favorites since I Shadow-Drafted him in the seventh round in 2007 out of South Carolina. His usual pattern is to get off to a slow start in April, then push forward with improved performances in May and June. He’s following that this year, with early problems at Double-A San Antonio but better numbers lately, including a 10-strikeout, 3-hit, 1-run outing against Corpus Christi on June 16th. On the season, he’s now 6-5, 3.98 with a 63/30 K/BB in 61 innings, with a 1.28 GO/AO ratio. The stuff has always been here: 90-95 MPH fastball with some sink, effective-if-erratic breaking ball. The key has been developing better control and refining his changeup, and he’s gradually doing that.

Here’s some video from 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG8reecbQls

It's been officially announced by the O's, if anyone cares
ORIOLES ACQUIRE MINOR LEAGUE RHP WYNN PELZER FROM
SAN DIEGO PADRES IN EXCHANGE FOR 3B MIGUEL TEJADA

The Orioles announced that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher WYNN PELZER from the San Diego Padres in exchange for 3B MIGUEL TEJADA and cash.

Pelzer, 24, is 26-23 with a 3.83 ERA (364.1IP, 155ER) and 330 strikeouts in 79 games (68 starts) over three minor league seasons. The right-hander is 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA (94.1IP, 44ER) and 83 strikeouts in 22 games (18 starts) for the Double-A San Antonio Missions this year. In 2009 with Single-A Lake Elsinore, Pelzer went 11-8 with a 3.94 ERA (150.2IP, 66ER) and 147 strikeouts in 27 starts.

A ninth-round selection by the Padres out of the University of South Carolina in the 2007 First Year Player Draft, Pelzer was named the 7th-best prospect in the San Diego organization prior to the 2010 season by Baseball America. The same publication named Pelzer’s fastball and slider as the best in the Padres’ minor league system.

Tejada, 36, batted .269 (108-401) in 97 games with the Orioles this season. In 716 career games with Baltimore, Tejada hit .305 (876-2870).

Oh and now we’re warming up Uehara. He’ll die. He will actually DIE if he pitches in this heat. -KenDixonFanClub

Thank god

he has been super aggressive hitting for a while. I suspect he make some of our young players impatient as well

Ha, I told you guys AM wasn't a total moron.

I’m pretty happy with this, the fact that we got anything useful for Miggi is pretty awesome IMO.

Meh deal

I remember hearing last year that the Padres had one of the worst farm systems in the league. So I can’t be overly optimistic about Wynn, even if he is a top 10 prospect for SD. Nevertheless, the value seems to be about right for Tejada.
