12-9 in August with seven games to go
Some fun facts about August 2010. The Orioles are 12-9 so far, which is their highest win total in a single month since they also won 12 games in June 2009 when they went 12-14. Starting with tonight's series the team as seven more games this month: 3 @CWS, 3 @LAA, and 1 vs. BOS.
If the Orioles finish the month 2-5, their 14-14 record will mark their first non-losing month since June 2008 when they went 15-12. If they go 4-3, they'll finish the month at 16-12. They last won 16 games in one month in April 2008. If they can complete the unlikely feat of going 5-2, their 17-11 record will mark their highest win total in a month since September 2004 when they went 18-10. Should they manage the nearly impossible and run the board, their 19-9 record will be their highest since they went 20-8 in September 1999.
This August the Orioles have played six series with two to go. So far they are 3-2-1. They last won three series in a month in September 2009 when they took a series from the Rangers, Yankees, and Rays in September 2009. It's easy to forget that since they also lost thirteen straight games that month before finishing the season with four straight wins.
If the O's can one of the upcoming White Sox or Angels series, their four series wins in August will tie their number of series wins for April-July combined (BOS, 20 Apr - 2 May; SEA, 11-13 May; WAS, 25-27 Jun; TEX, 8-11 Jul). It will also be the first time they win four series in a month since June 2009 (they also did it in April 2009).
If the O's can win the series between the White Sox AND the Angels, they'll finish the month with a series record of 5-2-1. The last time the Orioles won five series in a month was June 2008, when they beat the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros, and Chicago Cubs. The last time they won five series in a month without the help of interleague play was April 2005 when they won six. They beat the Yankees (twice), the Devil Rays (twice), the Blue Jays, and the Red Sox.
Lots of silly hypotheticals, but this is honestly the first August I can remember where I haven't been a totally miserable Orioles fan, so it's kind of fun to say what if.
