What to make of Ryan Adams?
After 2009, when Ryan Adams was dismissed from the team early after a relatively pedestrian 730 OPS in Frederick, I was ready to put Ryan Adams in my memory occupied with the likes of Nate Spears and Brian Bass. Adams was sent home for "disciplinary reasons" which allegedly were arguing with Frederick's manager (source). But 2010 was a new beginning. His OPS is 839. I thought perhaps it had to do BABIP, but his BABIP in 2010 is 368, with a career minor league BABIP of 355, so it's not as if his numbers are being driven by an artificial, unsustainable BABIP. Of concern are two things: defense, which apparently is pretty bad, and his walk rate, which is about 8.1% in Bowie this year, which isn't too bad, but I've read Sickels recommending using a 10% mark as a cutoff. So, what do you think of Adams? Could he actually be an heir apparent to Brian Roberts? Or will his defense not be acceptable in the majors? Or are there other concerns?
