LAST CHANCE: Camden Chat Pick 'Em NFL Pool
UPDATE: So far we have nine people in. Hoping to get a few more.
Pool URL is: http://camdenpick.football.cbssports.com/e
Please send your $50 entry fee via PayPal to zknower at earthlink dot net. First pick is due by Thursday before the Minn-N.O. game!
Final Update:
With 12 folks playing, and a pot of $600, we have
- $10 for each week,
- $380 for overall first place,
- $50 for overall second place.
If anyone else joins between now and Sunday, their entry fee will go to the overall winner's pot.
Hey Gang:
We're doing a "pick 'em" type NFL pool here at CC. Setup is as follows:
- $50 one-time entry fee.
- Pick winners each week, no point spread, just win vs. lose. Tiebreaker is total points in MNF game. No weighted games, just an easy score system: 1 point for every correct pick. Deadline is 1 hour before each day's first game.
- If you accidentally miss a week, you don't get killed for it. You automatically get the lowest number of points a participant had that week, minus 1.
- Winner each week gets some beer money: around $10 depending on how many people join. Overall winner at the end of the season would get the balance of the pot.
As an example: with ten participants, we'd have an overall pot of $500.
- Each week's winner would get $10 (which is a sixpack of really good beer or a couple sixes of Natty Boh)
- Overall winner gets leftovers, which in this case would be $330.
- A nice thing about this is the weekly wins: each time you win a week, you get 1/5 of your entry fee back.
We'll use the Sportsline Office Pool thingy, and PayPal for all entry fees, and for paybacks each week.
If you're interested, please chime in below, and I will contact you using your cc-registered email. (You can also email me directly using zknower at earthlink dot net with "office pool" in the subject or something similar.) If you have questions, ask them below and I'll get to them as soon as I can. During the season, we'll have a message board at sportsline for questions and trash talk.
In a couple of days, I'll update with how many participants and whether we're a go. Season starts Sep 9.
FanPosts are user-created content and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Camden Chat or SB Nation. They might, though.

85$ Seems steep
Around $50 seems more reasonable to me.
"I'm from Maryland, and no one can beat me!"
I based it on $5 per week.
The idea is that with 17 weeks, you’re almost guaranteed to win at least 1 or 2 weeks, so the actual cost is closer to $45 for the big prize.
That said, I’d be happy to tweak if it would mean more numbers. I mean, 17 people at $50 each is the same stakes as 10 people at $85 each. But if we only get 10 people for $50 each, we’d need to tweak the other stuff—like eliminate the 2nd place prize every week, and drop the weekly prize to $10 or $15. Otherwise, the final pot would only be $75, which hardly seems worth a 4-month effort.
Maybe we can settle on numbers once we have an idea of total interest. Right now, it’s looking sparse. Anyone else in?

I’d rather do like $50 also but if the consensus is for more I’ll pony up.

I'd do this if it was free.
Alas, it’s not :(
Buck Showalter clearly isn't interested in having Anthony Rendon as a member of the Orioles.

OK, so far we're 6 peeps,
…and you all should have gotten invites. Feel free to forward to friends if you want them to join and we’ll adjust the prizes accordingly.

Everyone else except Stacey, still waiting for entry fees. Thanks!

just waiting to see if we'll get ten people by the time i get home from work today
i’ll have to think about this if we’re short

we have seven now
if you both actually go ahead and sign up, we’ll have 9.
Look just go ahead and do it. if you decide to pull out any time before saturday i’ll refund your money. i don’t care about the one game.

well kba and i are already signed up...so thats 7
if typozzz and Johnny_S sign up, then it’ll be nine.
i’ll transfer said funds as soon as i get home from work tonite. i guess with 7 people we do 7 bucks for first place, 3 bucks for second place, then overall winner takes whats left?

we cut out the second place prize
see above.
and i miscounted just now, because i somehow thought i was replying to typozzz and not you. he’s now in, so with johnny_s we’d be 8, plus i’m waiting on a few people i emailed it to.

i'm still lobbying for the second place prize
since this could easily turn into a one person wins everything sorta thing. thats one of the reasons i stopped doing these pick ’ems.

do you mean an overall second place prize?
or second place each week?
i’m fine with having an overall second place prize
"I put a pepper rub on the scallops so you have a little contrast. You have sweetness from the coconut oil and little acidity from the splash of lemon." – Luke Scott
actually, i'm fine with a weekly one, too
either way. it’s not that important to me.
"I put a pepper rub on the scallops so you have a little contrast. You have sweetness from the coconut oil and little acidity from the splash of lemon." – Luke Scott
just the weekly one
i’d actually be fine either way. the last time i did one of these, it was 75 bucks and there were only 3 different weekly winners. naturally, one of those three won the overall prize, so 12 of use lost 75 bucks. seems kinda stupid since over half of the weekly prizes were decided by 1 game. whatever works tho. i’m open to anything.

well,
on the one hand, i’m happy to have second prizes every week.
on the other hand, it seems silly to paypal $3 to someone.
I’d think if we’re going to have a second-place prize, the overall one might be better. it would be nice to have a final head count as to numbers. Knubles is coming in, but i have no idea where johnny_s is.
"I put a pepper rub on the scallops so you have a little contrast. You have sweetness from the coconut oil and little acidity from the splash of lemon." – Luke Scott
second overall would be good
or we could just keep all of the prizes until the end

no, i definitely want to have weekly prizes.
winning a week is a big deal. and if it’s only by one game, well, that person was one game better.
i definitely like the ability for everyone to have a chance to make some entry fee back. someone who wins a few different weeks but doesn’t win overall will still get something out of it.

I think he meant have weekly prizes,
but just hold the payout until the end of the season if the amount is fairly small
ahh. i see.
i’m doing the final tweak now.
