The Orioles announced that following today's game they optioned LHP TROY PATTON to Triple-A Norfolk.
Patton has been in uniform for eight games with the Orioles this year but has not seen game action. In two stints with the Tides earlier this year, Patton went 7-9 with a 4.80 ERA (108.2IP, 58ER) in 20 starts. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to tomorrow's game.

Totally smart move
If you ain’t gonna use him send him down and get him some innings

So who comes up?
I’m guessing Tater or Reimold.

I assume he will be called up in September, but how many options does he have left?
He was up here 18 days ago for a day and now this non-event. Do those two call-ups count as two optons?
If we wanted to look at him as a starter, and the current starters pitching longer into the game with Buck’s arrival, why not keep him around and option a reliever?
We go to Cleveland next week and then play Seattle the following week. Those games would give Patton some comparatively easy starts to see how he does. And come September, we seem to spend most of the month playing the AL-East teams, none of which will offer a game to ease him into the rotation.
And would it hurt the other starters to get an extra day off this late in the season?
I agree we should have another position player, but why not option Albers or Gabino? Albers is unlikely to be in the plans next year and Gabino doesn’t get much work anyway.

It only counts as 1 option. The option is good for the entire year. You can shuffle 'em back and forth as much as you want after using it.

Thanks for the clarification.....
but I would have liked to have seen what he has, especially having just read the Justice article that zknower posted a year ago.

Welcome back Tatum
I would think, anyway. Seems like the O’s felt a bit guilty about sending him down in the first place.
I'd bet on Tatum
Fox may be versatile, but he’s not hitting and never really has in the majors….time to bring Tatum back, even if he went cold in Norfolk.
poor guy
They just blueballed the bejesus outta him
