Angle should be lifting weights
He’ll never be worth anything to the major league club unless starts hitting the ball harder. Hiring a personal trainer and a nutritionist would be the best investment he ever made.

Some dude who is the head writer for some thing...
Said on 105.7 in an interview this morning that he doesn’t expect the O’s to name a new GM until the World Series is over, in accordance with MLB’s wishes.
He said a lot of teams would ignore MLB’s desire to keep the focus on the playoffs and do what’s best for them, but the Orioles “seem like the kind of organization that would go along with it.”

MLB Draft
If pitchers are such a complete and utter crapshoot in the draft, why not draft top-notch position players to try and stock the minors like the Royals did/do, then draft a bunch of pitchers in the 5th – 15th round who throw hard, but are unrefined, and spend more money in player development to see if even 1 in 7 or 8 guys per year can be turned into a serviceable major league caliber pitcher?
I mean, isn’t that better than our current model of spending our high 1st round picks on pitchers with a 0% success rate while watching the likes of Mike Trout go 20 picks after Matt Hobgood? On the other hand, Zack Wheeler, Mike Minor, Drew Storen, Aaron Crow, and Jacob Turner were also drafted in the picks following Matt Hobgood… Yonder Alonso, Jemile Weeks, Brett Lawrie and more were drafted immediately after Matusz…
Hindsight may be 20-20, but it also says that the O’s suck at drafting compared to the other high-pick teams.
you should never have a draft philosophy that is so strongly dogmatic
then you end up passing on guys like David Price, or doing things like, say, taking Billy Rowell instead of Tim Lincecum (not that that’s a particularly good example).
Tommy Hunter is Number One in my heart
Isn’t it a case of playing the percentages, though? Even if 10% of the time you pass on a Clay Bucholz and take Brandon Snyder, the other 90% of the time you’re going to be passing on Wade Townshend to take Stephen Drew (noting that I would place a much higher premium on college players).
I don’t think you can build a minor league system by taking taking high risk-high reward players. I’d rather have a system overflowing with B prospects than having two A prospects and a bunch of D prospects.
A sort of moneyball approach to the draft…

except you aren't getting Drew 90% of the time
most of the time you’re getting nothing. So it might (and I have no idea, I’m just guessing) be that 10% of the time you pass on Buchholz for Snyder in order to get Drew over Townsend 12% of the time. Which is drastically limiting your draft upside. You need pitchers, position players, prep guys, juco guy, and college guys. You can’t take away any of it to have an upper-tier drafting department.

All they've ever said was mid-october
Based on the past few years, people were expecting last friday. They posted a message on their website saying “We will post a tentative date on the website and will email bar applicants with this information in the coming days,” so thats all i know. My guess is the email comes today or tomorrow saying results will be released this friday, but theres really no way to tell.
I always hate emails that tell you to check at a later date.
Just wait and send me the fucking email when you have something legit to tell me.

My kid's taking it at her school
I was cautiously optimistic she can qualify for National Merit Scholar, but since she’s a freshman, she doesn’t even qualify. She’ll have to take it again as a 11th grader. And she’ll already have taken the SAT twice by then.
"Complacency is your demise." - Kerry King
Once a year.
Once at end of 9th grade (when she’s done with Geometry and had all the math needed and it’s all still fresh), once at end of 10th.

i took the SATs 4 times
once in middle school, and then once each year for my first 3 years in high school in addition to the PSATs. my parents wanted to get me as much “practice” as possible

I went to Oxon Hill
I got a 1530 on my SATs. I probably could have gotten a 1600 if I ever bothered to study or take it again, but… nah.
....
I’ve talked to a few parents and fellow teachers. She’s had Alg I and Alg II and is taking Geo now. So, take the SAT at the end of this year, when the highest math that’s on the test is still fresh in your mind. And, also, get practice taking the test. I’m a big fan of knowing what you’re going in to.
By the end of next year, she’ll have had another year of advanced English classes, along with Latin II this year and Latin III next year. So, good shot the English scores go up. And, she’s taken the once before at that point, so there shouldn’t be as much anxiety about the actual test day and the forms and the structure and OMG when can I go to the bathroom, etc. And I’m not too keen on her waiting until her 11th grade year for her second shot at it.
"Complacency is your demise." - Kerry King
I took it twice, the 2nd time because i was a little disappointed with my verbal
but i did plenty of practice tests under exam conditions and felt really prepared by test day. Schools treat multiple scores different ways, i felt like i was better off with just a couple attempts. Things have changed though, I might feel differently with the new format.
I can't see any more than 3
1 in 9th, maybe 1 in 10th and 1 in 11th. Can’t do one in 12th, because she won’t have a free Saturday to take the test with stupid flags in the fall and anything later is too late for early decision. :(
"Complacency is your demise." - Kerry King
Nobody does SATs in 12th....SAT IIs only.
I don’t really see the need to take the SATs in 9th grade. Its sorta pointlessly adding an extra score. Take it once at the end of 10th and see if another one is needed in 11th. You can always take it twice there. If you’re worried about the math, don’t be. Its exceptionally easy even if not “fresh in your mind.” If you can add and subtract, you can do that math.

The class was an utter joke, because there were 6 students in it and we were taught over distance learning by a teacher in another school. We basically constantly ignored him until he, at one point, decided “fuck them” and stopped teaching for a week, until he was reminded he couldn’t do that.
All of us still got like a 4 on the test.

If you’re not happy with the distance on your drives, a lot of the better professionals are taking running starts.
Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Is that a Scrubs quote?
I feel like that’s a Scrubs quote.

Little bit before her time, I imagine.

I'll bet you five dollars that I'm right.
And AMD said I was right. So I’ll take that $5.

YES. YES. YES.
I flew to NOVA this weekend to attend a wedding and squeeze in some golf. I thought about bringing my own clubs, but decided it was too much hassle. I ended using my dad’s super old clubs, and they fucking blew hard. Mind you, these clubs are an older than 8 years old (I was playing with a set of Ping Eye 2) and the lost of distance was astonishing. In the golf world, eight years a pretty long lag in technology. If brand new clubs are too expensive, I would shop the used clubs section on ebay. Now that’s it’s offseason, you could find some great deals.
Kevin Gregg-"You obviously haven't acquired my taste for pitching yet"
This is pretty much the conclusion I have come to. If only I can suppress my inter cheapness to get some quality stuff.
"Grow nothing, buy the 'Pen" (Wieters Weiners)
some of the older taylormade rac irons are dirt cheap and really nice.
and good used drivers are dirt cheap. i bought callaway hyper X driver and 3 wood for less than $100. the hyper x model is certainly a few generations behind, but i love them.
Kevin Gregg-"You obviously haven't acquired my taste for pitching yet"
For drivers
I figured I would try to get one of the “adjustable” ones. Maybe by next spring R11s will be cheaper. I really have my heart set on a ping i15 i think. Irons I don’t know what to get…
"Grow nothing, buy the 'Pen" (Wieters Weiners)
anytime there is talk about shafts
especially stiff and x-stiff.
"Grow nothing, buy the 'Pen" (Wieters Weiners)
But you should see your doctor about the x-stiff.
Or if you experience stiffness lasting for more than 4 hours. Makes it difficult to choose the right club with all those doctor’s visits.
Mother, did it need to be so high.
Yea
im looking for mid trajectory and low spin (shaft has mostly to do with it i have been told)
"Grow nothing, buy the 'Pen" (Wieters Weiners)
i think the shaft's kick point is more than its stiffness when it comes to ball trajectory.
Kevin Gregg-"You obviously haven't acquired my taste for pitching yet"
thats what i have read as well.
but unless I get it custom made they are hard to find.
"Grow nothing, buy the 'Pen" (Wieters Weiners)
hey, did you get that job?
can you tell us who the evil empire is yet?
"End of season like this, to make Boston go home sad, crying, I’ll take it all day."—Robert Andino
no
but if a position is offered, i must admit this will be a hard decision.
Kevin Gregg-"You obviously haven't acquired my taste for pitching yet"
i can confirm that is NOT the koch brothers.
Kevin Gregg-"You obviously haven't acquired my taste for pitching yet"
I'll sell you my King Cobra's for $750.
I haven’t been able to golf in 2 years. >.<

Details...
do they have stiff shafts (sounds inappropriate, i know).
"Grow nothing, buy the 'Pen" (Wieters Weiners)
They're King Cobra FP 2008's.
They’re not worth $750. That was a bit of a joke. However, I’ve only taken them out 5 times, so they’re in great shape. I also have a Callaway hybrid, Callaway lob wedge, and Cobra driver (only used once). Not sure about model names. They’re also 2008 year stuff.
And yes, all are stiff shafts.

This list doesn't look too bad.
I’m scared we’ll just end up with Ricciardi, though.

J.P. Ricciardi excluded, I don't hate that list. Might actually like it.
Mother, did it need to be so high.
"The Orioles are forming a panel to interview the candidates."
Who do you think’s gonna be on that panel? Hey guys, pick me!

The panel will consist of
Angelos, a life-size cut out of Cal, and Jim Palmer’s “Way To Fitness” propped up suggestively on a chaise lounge.

This is the really compelling question,
I would love to know if they’ve been held accountable for hiring the string of jokers that have the job. I bet Showalter is on the blue ribbon panel, because it’s entirely the Orioles way to have a subordinate hire his boss…
If you look at those UZR ratings or whatever
kewl, josh byrnes made the list.
gerry hunsicker is the only name that i dislike on that list. maybe he’s changed from working under friedman but he had veteranitis with the stros.

In fairness, the legend of Theo might be better than actual Theo, as Lackey and Crawford weren’t the best signs.
