I don't believe that's true
Unless you go into the neutral zone, you won’t be penalized. From Wikipedia; “If a defender jumps across the line but gets back to his side before the snap there is no foul.”
It's against the letter of the law,
but it’s rarely called. On the other hand, the ‘defender drew me to flinch’ defense is awarded far more often than it should be.
You come at the king, you best not miss.

I’m sure you all remember that last series with the Red Sox and especially the last game. Every damn week is like that as a Broncos fan. I’ve aged 25 years in the past 3 months.
Every game has plays like that.
They happen with 45 minutes left. They happen with 2 minutes left. But, they always happen.
I feel bad for Barber. He had a really solid game and then, just… wow.
At the end of the day though, the Broncos played a great defensive game (13 points allowed is always a good game), Prater was a monster with ice in his veins (59 yards to tie the game with 8 seconds left?), and Tebow took advantage of Bears’ mistakes (21/40, 236 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT). It’s good to be a Broncos fan right now.

It’s so beyond ridiculous now. Over at the Broncos’ blog, we all know deep down it’s going to end… and then it doesn’t. But then it’s going to end… and then it doesn’t.
Nothing lasts forever. Not the Patriots undefeated season. Not this year’s Packers (or next if the pull off what the Patriots couldn’t). Not the Broncos’ driving a million fans into cardiac arrest every week.

well, he's not elite
but he’s very good. last year was a bad year for him, sorta like this year for rivers. I would put Eli in the 2nd tier of “very good” QBs with the likes of Romo, Rivers, and Schaub, behind the “elite” QBs of Rodgers, Brees, Brady, and Peyton.

Well, this is really the first year they haven't been able to run at all
and on a TC team, that just doesn’t happen, so Eli has actually had to pass this year. Now he might throw for 5,000 yards (which has been done 2 times in NFL history but might be done 4 times this year by Rodgers, Brees, Brady, and Eli).
He may be at his talent ceiling, but play calls have limited his attempts in the past as well.

Eli also has the highest 4th quarter QB rating in the league (yes, even higher than Tesus himself). Of course, QB rating is far from perfect, but yes, he has been good.

I'll readily agree that he's been terrific in the 4th Q this year
I just think it’s ridiculous overhype when stats like the one you cited (Manning, Unitas, etc) are all over my TV during the game. It’s manufacturing a story to appeal to the NYC market.
A lot of historical QBs would have more than 14 4th Q TDs if they hadn’t put their teams so far ahead in the 1st 3Qs on a regular basis.

I’m not trying to ruffle your feathers by implying that Eli Manning is a good QB in the 4th.
I would argue it isn’t totally worthless though. As I said before, I’m sure Brees or Rodgers or whoever may be able to do it given the chances. However, there’s always 1 team trailing or tied in every 4th quarter of every game of every season, but only 2 other QBs have managed to put up those numbers and they happen to be Peyton Manning and Unitas. The Rex Grossmen of the world are usually trailing in the 4th quarter of every game, yet they haven’t put up stats like that. It’s just a number. You can take from it what you will.

Well, there's a 4th quarter in every game
and that’s usually the part of the game right before it ends, so it generally carries some significance. For the Giants it has been extremely significant because they have had to come from behind for almost all of their wins, and that coming from behind happened in the 4th quarter. But you already said you agree he’s been a great 4th quarter qb, so I think this is arguing for argument’s sake, and I don’t enjoy doing that, so it is what it is.
So, Ben Folds has a new (kinda) album… how about that?
