What you need to understand
As another year of MLB's free agency came and is still here, fans are still hoping for that BIG bat and signing by Pete Angelos. What they fail to understand is that first it's not worth the money to oversign any free agent who is predicted to do well in an Oriole's uniform. Second, the owner will not take an investmnet so large for purposes that are unsuitable for the situation now. For instance, Fielder(Prince) or Pujols(Albert); the wishlist of many O's fans for the season. What is failed to understand is the past season just played. Look at the runs scored!! Its not the BIG bat that is needed for success in Baltimore, its the pitching ot hold down the runs. Look at it this way, you can score as many runs as your lineup is capable of; however, you will lose if you allow more runs to score.Last year for instance, the Orioles lineup that featured 176+ homeruns and 227+ doubles with a payroll of an estimated 85 million. Last season, Pujols had 29 doubles and 37 homeruns (tied with Baltimore's Reynolds). Comparing the two with millions of dollars as a difference. Also, Fielder last year had 36 doubles and 38 homeruns for also a substantial amount of money more than Baltimore's Reynolds. Therefore, look at the needs instead of wants when it comes to a game made of statistics. Last year the orioles had trouble holding down games in the back end of their bullpen and leading games with their rotation. So dont expect the BIG bat, expect pitching, it wins games.

Well said.
I’ve been ranting about the same thing at http://belovedborioles.blogspot.com/
It’s so frustrating to go on the O’s site and seeing all the crazy fans who think that any free agents with a decent bat would want to play here. We need an ace if we’re going to be contenders, and (while he is certainly NOT an ace) Guthrie seemed to be the only viable trade chip. Crazy. Thank god Duquette didn’t do too much. And I’m being serious about that.
thank you
Im glad to see there are fans out there who understand the issue. And yea, its a good thing we kept guthrie since he had the most experience out of the group.
I would be shocked if even 10% of the people on this site seriously wanted the O's to sign Prince.
I think you’re preaching to the choir and/or beating up a straw man here.

My point is...
Regardless if it is Prince or Pujols (their just examples), its the fact that a big name power hitter isn’t the key to turning the franchise around; especially one with a salary more than the team’s.
Nobody here thinks that those guys are the answer.

Have you spent any time reading the content on this site?
Legit question, not trying to be an ass. No one is talking about signing a big bat.

agree with this, except
you aren’t honestly trying to compare Reynolds to Pujols and Fielder, are you?
I love when people come in here telling me what I need to understand

Welcome to Camden Chat
I see that you’re brand spanking new, and you’re not trolling over here because you’re bored with some other SBNation blog, so I give you respect for that. However I think it would be wise of you to do a little homework and page through the archives for awhile before throwing out fanposts like this. You’re not the first to jump the gun and you certainly won’t be the last, so I hope you continue to contribute.

Well first of all, my jets are as cool as cucumbers
Second of all, I understand that as it’s been stated here a couple times, no one on this blog has voiced the opinion that you state “fans” want. I’m happy you want to write and contribute but it’s a little crazy to jump in here assuming what all of us need to understand.
You could have written this entire thing about how the Orioles should focus on pitching such and not big name free agents without the tone that you are blessing us with your insight because all of us fans just don’t understand. And that would have been a nice post.
my bad
I didnt really mean for it to come out that way, I should have worded it differently.
