OT: Titov-Las Vegas! NCAA Bowl Games, Week 1: Let’s disembowl them oddsmakers!
It’s that time o’ year again – yes, time for the Moscow Mop-up Man to point out to the sharkskin-suited Vegas lowlifes the dude who REALLY knows a thing or two about college football! And if that guy shows up, I sure hope he drops by my place, ‘cause I don’t know jack about most of these games, and I could really use his advice – I mean I have to fill out the whole damn card.
Anyway, here we go: it’s simple W/L for all games except the critical ones, i.e. those featuring PAC 12 teams. There, of course, the spread counts.
--> DEC. 17:
New Mexico Bowl: Temple 8-4 (5-3) [-7] vs. Wyoming 8-4 (5-2):The known world, incl. 2/3 of the Yahoo bowleroos, think Temple kicks ass here. I disagree, as crap conf. loses to a better one: WYO
Idaho Potato Bowl: Ohio 9-4 (6-2) vs. Utah St. 7-5 (5-2) [-1.5]: Same crap conf [see above] against a team capable of mayhem, which they should produce for a bowl in Idaho, where they’ve certainly played before: UtSt
New Orleans Bowl: San Diego St. 8-4 (4-3) [-5] vs. LA Lafayette 8-4 (6-2): The frickin’ Dagos have cost me TWICE this yr, but c’mon-- you can’t NOT take ‘em against some Sun Belt almost-somebodies: SDS
--> DEC. 20:
Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl (SPb, FL): Florida Intl. 8-4 (5-3) [-4] vs. Marshall 6-6 (5-3):There are exactly 2 good teams in Conf USA, and neither one is called Marshall. So hold yer nose and take these Sun Belters at home: FIU
--> DEC. 21:
Poinsettia Bowl (San Diego): No.16 TCU 10-2 (7-0) [-10.5] vs. La. Tech 8-4 (6-1): A def no-suspenser, as the Horny Pierres are actually better than 16 and Tech is a lowly Whacky WAC champ: TCU
--> DEC. 22:
MAACO Bowl (Vegas): Arizona St. 6-6 (4-5) vs. No. 8 Boise 11-1 (6-1)[-14]: The only good thing abt this game is the fantasy drooling of certain O/U bettors over the prospect called What if Osweiler gets really hot?-- which he CAN do, o' course. We KNOW Moore is likely to throw 5 or sth against the Scum Devils infamous Dresden Defense; but ASU is a team that clubbed Missouri and $C and played OR tough into the 2nd, most of it on Osweiler’s arm. And it’s Erickson’s last hurrah, which is prolly a Good Thing, but may actually be a hokey inspiration of sorts, too. Still, any way you slice it BO is the pick: they jus’ LOVE to demonstrate their “PAC 12 caliber”: BO beats
--> DEC. 24:
Hawaii Bowl: Nevada 7-5 (5-2) vs. Southern Miss 11-2 (6-2) [-6]: Easiest call o’ the week, as NEV w/o Kaepernick has been just another Whacko Mediocro, while SoMiss is much better than the crap conf it plays in: SoMiss

Heh...I'm actually taking Temple and LL
Wyoming is pretty crappy stopping the run….Temple plays crap competition, but still produced the 6th leading rusher in the nation. The Pokes probably beat that spread though.
If LL can shut down the run even remotely, they should be all over the weak-ass passing attack that SDSU “boasts.”
I don’t have much tolerance for stupid. Or cheese on food that doesn’t need it. -duck
Temple: meh. In a brief look in Oct, I was underwhelmed. Now, ahem: If SDS doesn't Do This, they officially enter Titov's House o' Horrors
as only the 2nd team ever to cost me three [ 3 ] times in a single season. Yes, you guessed it, after Washington St., who’s done it twice [!].
We still suck, but on Sept. 29, 2011, we did a Very Cool Thing. Yeah, we did that.
They can run though, which is something Wyoming can't stop.
LL actually has some decent numbers against the pass, but then again, that could be because the rest of that conference has nobody who can throw.

Welp, what I saw was their 2 guys running away like crazy -- as they racked up 10 pts in an uninspiring L to...Bowling Green
Yikes. So yeah, they’re gonna have to Show Me…
We still suck, but on Sept. 29, 2011, we did a Very Cool Thing. Yeah, we did that.
hahaha yea....I don't get why they're such heavy favorites.

8 rushes for 31 yards and a TD on the first drive.
Not bad, Temple. Not bad.

Surprised WYO showed up for this game in person, since they'd clearly already decided that phoning in would be sufficient
Maybe what we’re seeing are holograms. They sure tackle like them.
We still suck, but on Sept. 29, 2011, we did a Very Cool Thing. Yeah, we did that.
Toldya they couldn't stop the run!

Eagerly looking forward to the rose bowl handicap Titov.

The short version: your h.s. substance abuse counsellor was right: Speed Kills. And it kills the Big Dim big time, every time.
OR [-6] wins/beats going away.

I don't think my HS has such a counselor
Or I just haven’t met him yet. Don’t think I’d plan to either.

Day 1: Now y'see, THIS is why 'capping college f'ball is just So Much Fun.
If you define “fun” as ripping out your liver and beating on it with a tire iron for a while.
Temple 37 WYO 15. The Cowboys were clearly infused with spirit— the spirit of Do We Have to Play ANOTHER Game?, as though this Low-End Mediocrity Bowl was their punishment for being MWC also-rans. I haven’t seen this many feebly-attempted arm tackles since the last North-South All-Jersey H.S. All-Star Game, or whatever it’s called now, where the whole idea is apparently to pad everybody’s OFF stats for college recruiting purposes. Thus mighty Temple, trounced earlier by, um, Toledo and Bowling Green, showed us just what the ridiculous MAC, the conf of Kent State, Akron and other traditional powers, can do when riled up. And the world groaned, winced and groaned again.
OH 24 Ut St 23. If there was any residual doubt lurking anywhere over just why Ut St didn’t actually beat AUB at the conclusion of a pleasant Sept. afternoon spent drubbing them silly (448-364, up 10 w/ under 4:00), the hilarious denouement of THIS one erased it. Up 23-10 deep in the 3rd, the rest of this easy W was simple formula: keep playing. Coach Andersen, however, was having none of it, opting for the famously “strategic” Stop Playing, Guard the Ball, Maybe the Clock’ll Run Out Or Something, I Dunno, effectively snatching defeat from the jaws of victory despite a convincing advantage (441-345) against a 1.5 grade-lower team: and bingo, Mickey Tettleton’s kid brings OH its 1st bowl W ever. Yep, EVER. You have to be happy for the, er, Bobcats, previously abused this season by the likes of Buffalo and Ball St. [sic], but still, it was a so-bad-it’s-funny loss. Unless you’re from Logan, I guess.
LA Laf 32 SDS 30. Hee-hee again, as the Dagos played an entire half as though they had somewhere else more important they wanted to be, like Pasadena or Pizza Hut or sth, only to find that you can’t beat even a 1st-time Div 1 FBS bowl team by picking up the pace when you decide you’re ready now, thx. Sure, Lindley will still go in the 1st round (and he’s as fun to watch as Luck, with maybe more ball zip), but this L on a 50 yd FG as time expired was a(nother) well-deserved pie in the face for the MWC. Hey, that’s why they play the actual games, clown shoes ‘n’ all.
We still suck, but on Sept. 29, 2011, we did a Very Cool Thing. Yeah, we did that.
That damn blown lead from Utah State cost me 3-0 for the day.
Ended 2-1 overall….1-2 ATS.

Meanwhile: Which league has most to prove in bowls? (Yahoo! Sports Staff)
At the college football roundtable each week, we ask each member of the coverage staff for their opinion about a topic.
This week’s question: Which league has the most to prove in the bowls?
Olin Buchanan’s answer: I think it is the SEC, the conference that loudly trumpets its superiority at every opportunity. Alabama and LSU are playing for the national championship because they’re the best teams in what we continually are told is the best collection of football teams in the country. But many feel that outside of LSU and Alabama the SEC was rather average this season. If that’s true, doesn’t it then raise questions whether LSU and Alabama really are the best teams in the country? The SEC needs a good showing in the bowls to prove that it actually is as strong as its continual boasts would indicate.
David Fox’s answer: I have maintained that the SEC, beyond LSU and Alabama, doesn’t have the elite depth we’ve seen in recent seasons. Georgia and South Carolina helped answer some questions in the final week of the regular season with convincing wins over Georgia Tech and Clemson, but I still want to see more. Arkansas is supposed to be the No. 3 team in the league. Given that, the Razorbacks should be able to handle Kansas State, one of the teams I thought gave the Big 12 the edge as the deepest conference this season. If South Carolina beats Clemson and a quality Big Ten team, Nebraska, in its final two games, that’s quite a statement for the league. The same could be said of SEC East champ Georgia defeating Big Ten Legends champ Michigan State. Auburn was a non-factor in the SEC race, but the Tigers will face a Virginia team that was in ACC contention until the final week of the regular season. Even Vanderbilt has a chance to make a statement against Big East co-champ Cincinnati. If the SEC wins most of those games, the conference reaffirms its spot as the most complete league in the land. If the SEC loses most of those games, it reinforces the notion that the conference wasn’t much more than the two teams playing for the BCS championship.
Mike Huguenin’s answer: I think the Big Ten has a lot at stake. The league has 10 teams in bowls, tied for the most all time, and eight of them play other Big Six opponents (three vs. SEC, two vs. Big 12 and Pac-12 and one vs. ACC). Despite the 10 teams being in bowls, the league was thought to be down this season. Was that correct? If the Big Ten struggles in the postseason, the answer would be yes. The leagues that were thought to be the strongest were the Big 12 and SEC, and they have something to prove, too. The SEC has to show it was more than a two-team league this season, and the Big 12 has to show it deserved all the regular-season kudos that flowed its way.
Steve Megargee’s answer: I’d pick the ACC, with a qualifier. I don’t think anyone really cares how the ACC fares in its lower-tier bowls. All that matters is how the ACC does in its two BCS games. The ACC’s 2-11 record in BCS games is far and away the worst of any of the six major conferences. This marks the first time the ACC has received multiple BCS bids, and the Sugar Bowl’s decision to hand an at-large invitation to Virginia Tech received the most criticism of any BCS selection in the past few seasons. The ACC has a great opportunity to change its dismal BCS history. Clemson is a 3.5-point favorite over West Virginia in the Orange Bowl. Michigan is favored by 2.5 to 3 points over Virginia Tech, but this is certainly a winnable game for the Hokies. If the Hokies and Tigers win their bowls, the complaints about Virginia Tech’s Sugar Bowl bid will die down and the ACC gains some national respect. If Clemson and Virginia Tech split those two games, it likely doesn’t change the ACC’s reputation as a BCS underachiever. And if both teams lose, the jokes about Virginia Tech’s Sugar Bowl invitation and the ACC’s BCS woes could last throughout the offseason.

Okay Beef O'Brady.
Every time I say something about an easy pick, I lose, so I’m not going to say it. In any case, I’m 2-1 (1-2 ATS), but I’m taking FIU tonight to cover.

Saw the 2nd half-- literally one of the worst (least entertaining/most talent-free) bowl performances I've every witnessed.
Unbelievably impoverished f’ball. Well, at least I also MISSED THE PICK AGAIN…
