Offseason OT: Sons of Anarchy Finale (Spoilers)
So that we don't have to worry about spoilers.
I thought that the finale had it's moments but really didn't take any risks or make any big moves. In the end I think it ended too predictably. That isn't to say that season 4 wasn't great and that the next season won't be great. But I felt that after about 12 really strong episodes these last 2 were a let down. Tara staying in Charming, Clay is still alive, the government is basically off the Sons completely, it seems like everything wrapped up too nicely. There was the little thing at the end about some potential beef with the Niners in Oakland which might carry over and be a big focus of next season. Also, why was there almost no violence? I'm not saying that SOA is only good if there is violence, because the drama is great, but this is a crime show which has had some seriously awesome action scenes this season. No big buildups or shootouts though, just Jax taking the gavel which was sort of obvious, I mean come on, no one actually thought he was gonna leave. The Tara- Jemma stare off at the end was sort of cool, but I get the sense that Jemma got what she wanted and that whole familial drama is a moot point now. I sense next season will have a lot of the Niners trying to get revenge and Opie stirring shit up.

I was disappointed.
As one reviewer pointed out, the ending was very soap opera-ish with everything pointing towards change only to end with a giant reset button and everything ending up the same. All the same characters will be around with basically the same problems except for a reorganization in club politics. I expected to see something more imaginative out of the show.
Mother, did it need to be so high.
What a letdown
there were so many things wrong with that episode that i don’t even know where to start. I guess theres some interesting things set up for next year, but i was really disappointed in this whole season.
My main problem is that they came up with this ridiculous reason to keep Clay alive and in the picture.
I just can’t believe that the Irish, after having dealt with Jax and Clay for years, all of a sudden will only deal with Clay at the meet where all the guns, and I assume all the money for the guns, are already at the meeting place. What trust reassurance do the Irish need at that point? It’s a simple exchange. If Jax couldn’t be trusted, wouldn’t the Irish just get busted right then and there? It didn’t make any sense and seemed like such an artificial reason to keep the tension between Clay and Jax around.

The Charming Heights storyline was so pointless too
In order for it to not be worth cutting entirely, there needed to be a much bigger payoff than Linc dumping a bag of sex toys on a table
Completely pointless.
It factored into, what, two, three episodes? Maybe a couple more when it was just mentioned off hand. I guess they put it in as a vehicle to get the new sheriff in town but there was a way more simple way to do it: Unser is out because he’s sick, therefore, new sheriff.

it may have been a few more than that
but they were scattered throughout the season in a way that made you think it had to be important, especially after Linc brought it back up last week. I was convinced it was going to factor heavily into the finale.
Just another loose end too neatly tied up
amateur hour.

I think one of the shows biggest problems is that it never lets him DO anything
Every action he takes is forced on him by someone else.
I was hoping the Sons would be more involved in that storyline.
It was so against everything that they are trying to accomplish in Charming, but for the most part they just bent over and let it play out after Plan A didn’t work.
When Andino finally emerged, he looked up at the Red Sox fans filing out. "I just wanted to see them go," he says

Yeah that was a huge letdown
They subtly hinted at it like it was going to be some huge thing and then poof, nothing. It was a desperate attempt to make Linc relevant in any way shape or form. Given the direction they went with the finale, his character was a giant waste of time.
Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

One of the few redeeming things about the episode
at least it made the botched abduction of Tara make a little more sense.

I'm with most of this
I was expecting so much more out of the episode. Magically making the Cartel CIA operatives seemed like a total cop out.
What’s the cliffhanger supposed to be? Will Opie return and act like nothing happened? Will the Niners start a war with SAMCRO? They make one ominous comment about how the girl killed in the drive by was the daughter of some big wig gang member, and I’m guessing they will build next season on that. Pretty weak stuff.

Yeah, next season is definitely going to be a war with the Niners
or whatever organization the girl’s father runs, if its a substantially different group
