Orioles 14, Tigers 9: Detroit cures Luke Scott's ST woes

It's been awhile since I wrote a game recap, mostly because I've been tired of Spring Training for a few weeks now. But today's game was pretty cool so I thought I'd give you some tidbits.

Zach Britton had another good game, pitching six innings and giving up two runs. He walked one and struck out four. Britton will in all likelihood be optioned to AAA now that he's made his final spring start. Godspeed, Zach. We'll see you this summer.

Jim Johnson, Jeremy Accardo, Ryohei Tanaka, and Brandon Cooney also pitched for the O's today, with Tanaka being the goat, allowing six runs in just 0.1 inning. No big whoop as Tanaka is little more than organizational filler. As an aside, have any of you seen Brandon Cooney? I saw him pitch in Bowie last summer and he is huge. 6'6" and like 250. When I saw him he had what appeared to be a fantastic mullet. I'd love to see that kid in the bullpen one day.

Anyhow, on to the offense. Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, and Vladimir Guerrero each had three hits on the day. Brian Roberts scored three runs at the top of the lineup (please stay healthy, Brian. Please). Despite having one less hit than those three, Luke Scott was definitely the hero of the day. He hit two home runs, one grand slam and one of the three-run variety. It's possible Luke is warming up at just the right moment He's hit better of late and today was typical locked-in Luke. Luke's two hits yielded at gaudy seven RBI. Jake Fox padded his meaningless spring HR total with his 10th. Ok, we get it, Jake. You like to hit home runs. The O's also had six doubles on the day, one each by Roberts, Markakis, Mark Reynolds, Derrek Lee, Blake Davis, and Jeff Fiorentino.

The O's play their last spring game of the year tomorrow, then have two days off before kicking off the season in Florida against the Tampa Bay Rays.
