Doom is a very underused term when it
comes to MLB……nice……Go O’s!!!

Some nights the Orioles are really a depressing team to follow.

on the plus side,
…Lee is really starting to hit the ball. He, Markakis, Guerrero, and AJ all had multiple hits.

Lee
the 2 runs were not entirely meaningless to me because I had been waiting to see DLee hit the ball with authority. His singles and walks had been OK, but not what he’s here for. Seeing him line that ball out gave me a shred of hope to take away from a long, dreary slog of a game.

Around the minors 5-2
Norfolk was rained out in Louisville.
Bowie was blanked by Harrisburg 2-0. Wynn Pelzer went six innings, only yielding 4 hits, but 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. Ultimately none of the guys he walked would score, as he served up 2 solo homers. Still though, two home runs allowed and 5 walks does not equal a quality start. But going six innings is something of a victory. Also on the plus side, 9 ground ball outs, 2 fly ball outs. It looks like Daniel Klein has been promoted to AA, as he debuted in Bowie tonight allowing 2 hits in 2 innings without a strikeout or walk allowed. I have to say that promoting him seems pretty odd…I thought the primary goal was to stretch him out, not fast track him to the majors. On the offense side, Ronny Welty managed 2 of the 4 Bay Sox hits.
Frederick lost to Winston Salem 8-5. Tyler Townsend went 2 for 5 with a solo homer. LJ Hoes went 1 for 5. Trent Mummey went 1 for 4 with a walk. Mummey swiped his 16th bag of the season, including his total as a Shorebird.
Delmarva shutout Charleston 8-0. Manny Machado went 2-3 but was pinch hit for in the 7th inning. Jonathan Schoop went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. A quick search around the internet hasn’t revealed anything. I may not sleep. Field trip for a certain teacher?
Thanks for the kind words BaltoBen and others! I definitely check the minor league box scores most every night, so posting them here is no problem!
If you look at those UZR ratings or whatever
Nothing mentioned in The Daily Times recap
so I’m assuming it’s just some pine rime in a blowout.
10:30 start today – I’m not making that.

We enjoy the posts
You are saving us a lot of time and providing a lot of interesting information. We appreciate it!
I don't understand why we're using Pelzer as a starter
I thought our whole theory was that he was more dominant as a reliever?

Klein was moved back to the bullpen
the “stretch him out as a starter” thing was abandoned pretty quickly.
Free Nolan Reimold!
Don't look know
but Vlad is batting .274. Not bad after his horrendous start.
Still only a .667 OPS though

Also on the plus side
Guts went 7. I’m glad to see him showing his strength is back after the pneumonia. Someday, he’s bound to also recover from poor run support.

poor run support is like the herpes of o's pitchers...it never goes away

flipside of the loss
dlee seems to less lost at the plate. we put a lot of ducks out on the pond. guts gets the short end of the no-fence again but again has a strong outing.
i suppose the other side of the loss is that we’re firing on most of the other pistons. just not all in sync. better than being shutdown in order each inning.
I guess one advantage of not being able to watch the games ...

This is the type of game that drives me nuts. Made more so by it being Guthrie once again getting the shaft.

Can someone please elaborate on the possibly injured Markakis?
I missed the game last night, but the only thing I’ve seen is that he landed on a sprinkler head and got beaned in the hand, but he’s totally fine. No x-rays even required. Is there anything else?
Good stuff
Except I feel like we’ve been saying this all season, as young as it is. I think we’re often too prone (as Orioles fans) to hope for something better, when to me it’s only getting worse with a few positive outliers to keep me interested. I know this is a tired argument, but I’ll say it anyway: I’m tired of waiting for improvement, which I thought we had at the beginning of the year, only to be hit with a long losing streak and very little to show for it. Nevertheless, go O’s!

Imrpovement...
When we win tonight, we will have our 14th win. It took us until May 21st last season to get there… That’s 17 days. Possibly 15-16 games.
If we had played the two games that were rained out against the Skanks and won both of them we would be 2.5 games out of first place in the best division in baseball… (I know you can’t assume we win both, however we are 0-4 against them, I don’t think we’d go 0-6)
How is that not an improvement? I think so far this is a damn good improvement…
