Most Underrated Oriole
Rejoice. We are finally .500. It is refreshing to be .500 almost by Memorial Day weekend. Good times in Birdland. Now time to figure out why we are mediocre (in a good way). Stars have struggled: Luke Scott, Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, Mark Reynolds, Brad Bergesen, the entire bullpen. And we have sustained injuries: Brian Roberts, JJ Hardy, Brian Matusz, Justin Duchscherer. Now I want to poll birdland, which player has exceeded expectations the most AND gone unnoticed. Obviously there has been a lot of hoopla around Zach Britton and yes he has exceeded any and all expectations. I am specifically looking for an unsung hero type of vote.
stats before today
Adam Jones: 25 runs, 6 homers, 28 RBI's, 5 SB's, .306 AVG, 12 BB, 31 K's
Jake Arrieta: surprising stat I read on ESPN, 8 quality starts, only 8 starters have more this season. 61 IP/11 starts ERA 4.57, 9 HR allowed K:BB 56:27 WHIP 1.31.
Jim Johnson (my boy) 22 appearances WHIP 1.11 ERA 3.21 K:BB 23:5 3HR allowed.
Jeremy always solid Guthrie 60 IP 10 starts (1 bs relief appearance) ERA 3.45 WHIP 1.13 K:BB 36:10
The Showalter effect- good managing=wins?
Zach Britton 65 IP 10 Starts ERA 2.35 WHIP 1.12 K:BB 35/21
Please vote. And let's celebrate mediocrity. WOOO.
This is birdland.

Only Guts is performing better than I expected
AJ is right where I had hoped, Arrieta is right where I thought, JJ is where he always is, Zach doesn’t really count in this scenario, and Buck is fucking bunting and leaning on the same tired ass closer formula.
I think you just made Brad Bergesen's day by calling him a star

Well to be underrated, you can't be highly regarded
So I am not sure how Guts or Jones (at this point) makes the list. I went with JJ because he is having a great season and no one really thinks of him as being as good as he is playing.

Kevin Gregg is the most underrated Oriole
He is typically rated as a noxious bacterium festering in a decomposing turd.
He would be more fairly rated as simply the turd itself.

My bad on calling him a star..
but I think he could be an adequate #3/4 starter in the MLB still. I was attempting to name struggling stars, and I was short on pitchers (since we don’t really have any) and threw Bergy’s name into the fire. But really, who has exceeded expectations in a way to get us to .500?

that stat was surpassing to me.

nearly everyone would be better with 5 Jeremy Guthries in their rotation.

He gets a bad rap.
And the definition of underrated, according to Merriam-Webster, is to “value too low”. And that’s just what people do.

Oh, did you mean this season? Um… this is going to sound like a joke, but the O’s are getting probably 150% of what I would have expected out of Robert Andino so far.
Almost put Andino and Pie up there...
Pie has no walks though and I simply could not reward him by puttin his name in the poll (although I love him), Wieters gave me some consideration, but then again we do call him Jesus, Andino two weeks ago would have gotten my vote to be honest.. but he has regressed to the mean. I did this to bring up my main question.. has Buck had a large effect on this team. At times I question his decisions (Fox against lefties drives me insane) but it seems like our team is struggling and we are (were) .500, and why?
