Red Sox 4, Orioles 0: Shut out by John Lackey and company

If this picture doesn't make you want to punch someone in the face, then you are either dead, or you are a bandwagoning douchebag.

Going into today's game, Red Sox starter John Lackey had a 7.47 ERA. He had gone at least six innings in only four of his thirteen starts. His WHIP was 1.63. In today's game, Lackey pitched 6.2 innings, gave up three hits and one walk. In all the Orioles only managed four hits on the night. None of those hits were for extra bases. It was only the second time all year that Lackey allowed no earned runs.

The Red Sox had 17 at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Some other stuff happened but it's late and I don't care. This offense is pathetic. With Zach Britton's demotion to make room on the roster for Mark Hendrickson (it really hurts me to type that), the rotation is a total shambles. The Orioles cannot hit for average, hit for power, get on base, run or field. They also can't pitch, although giving up "only" four runs in the game means their atrocious staff ERA of 4.73 entering tonight will be slightly lowered.

The team sucks and I won't be sad to see the All-Star Break and have three blessed days of no Orioles. That's what I say now, but on Monday I'll probably be saying, "Man, I'd rather have crappy Orioles baseball than watch the Home Run Derby."

The losing is really getting to me

in no small part because after this series I hate the fucking Red Sox more than I ever have before. Between all the bitching and moaning yesterday about the INSIDE pitches and the silence today after Lackey drilled two Orioles (both looked quite intentional), I just can’t fucking stand these assholes.

Time to trade Adam Jones, JJ Hardy, Guthrie, Koji, JJ, and anybody else that can fetch a decent return and then fire Andy MacPhail and get somebody in here who can build a team capable of competing with these fucking smug arrogant pricks!

i normally don't side with going all bean ball

but it was sad watching the o’s just stand there and take that. this team has no soul.

then again, what would you expect being owned by an ambulance chaser.

+1 This.

Everything said here I second.
Just trade anyone worth a decent prospect and start rebuilding. It’s quite obvious that “Growing the arms” has, if not failed, not succeeded enough to compete.

The problem with 'Growing the arms'

is that you need to have an absolute shit-ton of arms growing. Look at TB, their AAA and AA clubs are stacked with arms that any of which would very likely have been pitching in the O’s rotation already. MacPhail went at this process, seemingly, putting everything on Matusz, Tillman, Arrieta, & Britton each, not just succeeding, but each reaching their ceiling as a player. That just doesn’t happen in reality. There was never anything else in the pipeline in the event that any of those 4 either hit a wall, washed out, outright failed, or got injured. There are no 100% success rates with pitching prospects. Of course this as failed.

This

“Grow the arms” only works when theyve been grown in a farm system that makes them major league ready. Tampa’s does. Baltimore’s…not so much.

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that’s real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember, everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know,
goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar’s chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Why didn't

our Birds retaliate when Crackey Lackey hit two O’s players? Are they so pathetic that they can’t even stand up for one another anymore….. Boy as much as I like the Yards, I really miss the old 33rd street place, just because back then the O’s weren’t 100% crap (1988 aside)…

And when he did get there, he gave Ortiz a huge shove.

July 10, 2011:

The starting ‘rotation’ of your Baltimore Orioles currently stands as such:

Jeremy Guthrie
Jake Arrieta
Mitch Atkins
Alfredo Simon
Mark Hendrickson

I………….just don’t have any words for this. There is no word in the English language quite capable of accurately expressing the depth of my despair regarding this ball club right now, as well as going forward.

Is Hendo going in the rotation after the All-Star game?

That was like my final criteria for possible 2011 failure. The circle is now complete.

Where is Rick Kranitz?

I thought he should have been kept on as pitching coach this year, but Buck wanted his guy, Connor. Adair is a good pitching coach, but he doesn’t really know our pitchers any more than Connor did. Kranitz or Griffin are the best bets for getting these guys back on track. Seems to me Kranitz took a minor league job with Minnesota or Milwaukee, but I could be mistaken. Can we get him back? He had these guys pitching pretty well last September.

Going unnoticed (or perhaps ignored) is the good job Troy Patton is doing in Norfolk. Maybe it is finally time to forgive his sins and give the man a chance?

all the joking about him aside...

what harm can it possibly do to see what he has getting the ball every five days w/ the big club.

Yeah.

We already know what Hendo and Weak sauce have to offer as starters (not much), so why not check out the mystery man?

They were playing the Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Which is where we were three weeks ago yesterday. They are a Texas Rangers affiliate… in case you were wondering.

I was at that game, too.

They looked like the O’s late in the game blowing a lead and losing in 10. I was having flashbacks.
