This Time Last Year - The Beginning of Buck
via tainabucher.com
Lately, I have been tracking how our team compares with the O's of 2010. Interestingly, we have held at +10 wins over last year's squad for the past week.
August 01 2010 - The Orioles had lost 15 of the last 17 games including a 5-4 loss to the Kansas City Royals to mark the last game of Juan Samuel as manager with a record of 32-73. In the article below, Peter Shmuck poses this little gem:
There are 57 games left to play, so the question of the day is an obvious one. How many games will Buck win over the remainder of the season?

August 01 2011 - We all know how Buck came in last season to manage a team that was on pace to have a record of 49-113 and ended up with arguably the best turn around in baseball history. One year later, the orioles lost to the MFY 4-2 and have lost 11 of the last 17 marking the 1 year anniversary of Buck Showalter with a 42-63 record.
In this existential crisis of ours I bring us full circle -
There are 57 games left to play, so the question of the day is an obvious one. How many games will Buck win over the remainder of the season?
In this Orioles world where nothing ever changes and all of our efforts leave us right back where we started, I figured it would only be fitting to leave you with a quote and a prediction - we close out the season 24-33. I wonder, was Buck just a diversion?
"We wait. We are bored. (He throws up his hand.) No, don't protest, we are bored to death, there's no denying it. Good. A diversion comes along and what do we do? We let it go to waste... In an instant all will vanish and we'll be alone once more, in the midst of nothingness!" - Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot

I REALLY REALLY needed the loud laugh I got when this picture popped onto the screen.
Thank you.
Like a bad, suave dude. You know what I'm sayin'. COOL. SC 7/24/08
Thanks for writing this
During boring times at work, I graphed the Orioles game-by-game record for 2010 and 2011.
In 2010, we started lousy and spent the season until August bouncing between .300 and .400. Then with the arrival of Buck, there was a steady climb.
In 2011, we started great guns at 6-1, went into a losing streak, and have spent most of this season bouncing between .500 and .400. In the last 2 or 3 weeks, we have been making a steady drop, now into the high .300 land. If there is a greater depression this year, it comes from the direction of our season.
The upcoming month is going to be very scary
we have been treading water just barely ahead of last season. I don’t see another incredible run coming up.
