It's quite bad out there. I've been an O's fan since the summer of 1994. The Matusz story this season--of injury, then ineptitude, then minor league revival... culminating with a HORRIFIC start today pointing to his utter doom is the grain of sand that embodies the Orioles season. It has been among the worst of the bad seasons since the Orioles started uber sucking 14 years ago... perhaps the worst because the expectations were so high. The 2002 season sucked violently, with Marty Cordova and David Segui and others in the mix... but we knew it would suck. The 2011 team had some hype to it.
When we look back at the scrap of this season, I think we have to commend Andy McFail for being able to trade for the AL's best hitting shortstop for Jim Hoey. That was a pretty damn good trade. ReynoldsforHernandez was about even money because the dude can't field at Third. (But Hernandez will never be top notch with his bad walk ratios). If we had pushed him to first, where he seems to be adequate, that would have been good. Signing Lee and Guerrero, that was profoundly idiotic. Signing no starting pitchers, bringing up Britton, eliminating the Dominican farm team, that was suicidal. On a very good team, Adam Jones would be hitting 6th or 7th, and Wieters 8th. Markakis makes sense as a #2 hitter, but what happened to the walks, and what happened to the fricking doubles?
