Angels 8, Orioles 3: Something close to rock bottom
Jo-Jo Reyes sucked at the beginning, Willie Eyre sucked in the middle, Kevin Gregg sucked at the end. The Orioles sucked with the bases loaded in between. Mark Reynolds sucked, Josh Bell sucked with RISP, Dan Haren struck out a lot of Orioles, and Torii Hunter hit a couple of not-very-monster bombs.
The parties involved will be back tomorrow at 9:05pm Eastern time. Tommy Hunter starts for the O's and Joel Pineiro goes for the Angels.

I keep thinking we’ve hit rock bottom:
4-32
Wade Townsend picked, and then not signed
Collapse of 2005/Raffy tests positive
30-3
Michael Gonzalez opening weekend 2010
but each year passes and it’s not as if the team is actually getting better or even seemingly headed in the right direction for more than a half an hour.
If you look at those UZR ratings or whatever
I've had this same problem for the past several years.
Something happens, and then I instinctively think, “Well, this has to be as bad as things can possibly get.”
Except looking at the current situation, I am acutely aware of all the potential for things to be even worse than they are right now, so really, we’re not rock bottom.

Jeff Z, on July 7
I have a real scary and disturbing thought to start your morning and I apologize in advance but here goes: As bad as the Orioles pitching has been lately, I can’t help but think that it could get a whole lot worse.

In the article...
You almost come to fully expect the next installment of Victor Zambrano or Victor Santos or Chris Waters to be on the mound in September with the Orioles facing all their divisional foes who need wins to get to the playoffs. It’s not a pretty picture.
So, do JoJo Reyes and Tommy Hunter fill the roles of Chris Waters and Victor Santos?

I apologize to the membership, but pls note that this is the first time I've missed a meeting of the Jane Eyre Discussion Group
All I can say is I hope it won’t happen again. Which it won’t if you-know-who remains chained to something in the bullpen.
Sincerely yours,

It seemed like the only way to tell the story.

Fantastic
Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Does thinking the team will win 70 games count as optimism?
