From the Orioles press release:
The Orioles today announced that they have recalled OF MATT ANGLE from Triple-A Norfolk and selected the contract of CA/INF JAKE FOX from the Tides. To make room for Fox on the 40-man roster, OF FELIX PIE has been designated for assignment.
Angle, 25, batted .272 (115-423) in 107 games for Norfolk this season. His 27 stolen bases led the Tides and ranked third in the International League. Angle made his major league debut with the Orioles on July 17 and was hitless in two games (0-for-7) for Baltimore.
Fox, 29, batted .274 (72-263) with 12 home runs and a team-leading 57 RBI in 67 games for the Tides this season. He hit .188 (9-48) with two home runs and four RBI in 19 games with the Orioles earlier this year. In 185 major league games over parts of four seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Oakland and Orioles, Fox has batted .231 (110-476) with 20 home runs and 71 RBI.
Pie, 26, hit .220 (36-164) with seven RBI in 85 games for the Orioles. In 268 games for Baltimore over the last three seasons, he batted .259 (182-704) with 14 home runs and 67 RBI
Not that Matt Angle is any great shakes, but maybe he won't fall on his face in the outfield. No one loved Felix Pie more than me during his time in Baltimore, but this is a welcome move. Pie had no value to this team.
Of course, if he passes through waivers he'll go to Norfolk. At this point, I'd say that's highly likely. I can't think of one team that could possibly use him on their major league roster.
Jake Fox will be occupying the roster spot previously held by Blake Davis.
Bye, Felix (at least for now). I really wish you could have been a better baseball player.
