Around the Minors 8-25-11:

Norfolk lost to Gwinett 4-1 as the Tides were 2 hit.  Steve Johnson gave up 4 earned runs in 4.2 innings on six hits and 3 walks, striking out 7 and posting a GB/FB of 4/2.  Josh Bell went 0-4 with 2 Ks.  Brandon Snyder went 0-3 with a walk and 2 Ks.  Kyle Hudson went 0-4 with a K.

Bowie lost to Erie 4-3.  Xavier Avery went 1-5.  Greg Miclat went 0-5 with a K.  LJ Hoes went 1-3 with a walk and a K.  Joe Mahoney went 0-3 with a walk and a K.  Caleb Joseph went 1-2 with 2 walks.  Aaron Baker went 1-3 with a K and a sac fly.  Ronnie Welty went 0-3 with 2 Ks.

Frederick beat Kinston 7-2.  Jonathan Schoop went 1-3 with  double and a walk.  Manny Machado went 2-4 with a homer and a K.  Tyler Townsend went 1-3 with a double and a walk.  Kipp Schutz went 0-3 with a walk and 2 Ks and a CS.  Randy Hendry pitched a scoreless 9th, giving up 1 hit.

Delmarva lost to Lakewood 9-4.  Jarrett Martin's struggles continue, as he gave up 3 earned runs and 4 unearned runs in 3.2 innings on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 1.  He committed his 9th error of the season, but did post a GB/FB of 7/3.  Kyle Simon threw a scoreless inning, retiring all 3 men he faced, 2 on ground balls, 1 on a fly ball.  Johnny Ruettiger went 3-4 with a double and a CS.  Ty Kelly went 0-4.

Aberdeen got thumped, losing 10-2 to Connecticut.  Glynn Davis went 4-5 with a CS.  Mychal Givens went 1-4.  Joe Velleggia went 0-4 with a walk.  Wynston Sawyer went 0-4.  Connor Narron went 2-4.  Dudley Leonora went 0-4 and has seen his batting average dip to .253.

The GCL Orioles lost the GCL Twins 12-6 in 11 innings, courtesy of giving up 3 runs in the top of the 9th and 6 in the top of the 11th.  Rod Bernadina went 0-5 with a walk and a K.  Sebastian Vader gave up 2 earned in 3 innings on 5 hits (1 homer) and 3 walks while striking out 5 and posting a GB/FB of 3/1.  Kevin Gregg was not in the GCL bullpen.

The DSL Orioles swept a doubleheader from the DSL Brewers.  In the Game 1 10-3 victory, Jhondaniel Medina gave up 3 earned in 7 innings, striking out 4, walking 2, and giving up 5 hits while posting a GB/FB of 10/3.  Byron Capellan went 1-4.  Hector Veloz went 0-4 with a K.  In the Game 2 one to nil victory, 19 year old Janser Severino threw a 2 hit shutout, striking out 6, walking 1 and posting a GB/FB of 10/6.  Capellan went 0-4 with 2 Ks.  Veloz went 0-3.
