USA Today: MacPhail to Depart at Year's End
MacPhail, according to two high-ranking Orioles officials, plans to leave the organization after his contract expires Oct. 31. He will not pursue an extension. The officials are not authorized to discuss the decision publicly because it is not official.

At first I was excited, but not so much anymore
My brother texted me this when Gregg was blowing the save tonight. At first I felt elation, but that feeling has subsided to indifference. The Orioles are going to wound hiring someone like Bill Bavasi or John Hart and nothing will really change. The Orioles are flawed to their core, and it’s really just…depressing. I mean, it’s not like the right people are going to be overseeing the hiring process, because it’s pretty clear the right people aren’t in the organization to begin with. After 14 years of losing, the Orioles are starting over. Again. But hey, maybe they’ll luck into hiring someone who can turn this ship around. But how confident are you?
If you look at those UZR ratings or whatever

There is no current solution.
I just don’t see anyone out there that can right the ship. I mean, I suppose they could move Buck into the GM spot but then we lose our field general. I’m not so sure bringing Cal Ripken in will have any impact on the field. It’s not getting the players to try. I think all of our guys are doing thief best. It’s the players we have. I think we are back to square one entirely. With th exception of two or three of our young guys, we need an overhaul.
