Are you ready for some football? After an exciting game in San Francisco, I didn't even bother watching most of the Denver-New England game. So much for Tebow Time.

It's again a light day for O's news, enjoy these two links and Go Ravens!

Camden Depot: Orioles sign Yoshihiro Doi to a Minor League Deal
Some info on the latest minor-league signing.

School of Roch: Orioles purchase Fatse's contract from independent team
I'm glad I didn't grow up with the last name Fatse.

No more College bowls, Tebow, or fantasy football. Slowly we are going to have to return to either talking baseball or inventing things to talk about (IE Hottie Brackets).

This bays-ball (sp?) sounds interesting. Do you have a newsletter?

I'd put it this way; if an offense is a sugar cookie, on base percentage is the pastry part of the cookie, power is the icing, and baserunning is like the jimmies that they sprinkle onto the icing. - Bill James

What part of the city are you gonna be in?

I’d skip Pat’s and Geno’s, which are pretty much just tourist traps, and go with Jim’s if you want something thats still a classic. And don’t overlook the cheese whiz. It sounds gross, but its really an intergral part. Slices of cheese don’t melt and coat the steak the same way cheese whiz does.

I think Pat’s vs. Geno’s is fun to go and taste-test if you’re looking for something stupid to do (or something to do when you’re drunk, but neither one is great in my opinion. I like Abner’s in university city and Dallesandro’s in Roxborough (used to win “best of Philly” but I think is under new ownership from my good old days), but you won’t be anywhere near them. My favorite place was the skyline on Market, which wasn’t well-known and is now closed anyway.

I’ve heard Jim’s is better than Pat’s and Geno’s, though I’ve never been there, and it’s by far the closest to old city of the well-known places.

by BrianS on Jan 15, 2012 1:51 PM EST up reply actions

I've honestly never done much of the tourist-y stuff in Philly, so i'm not really sure

Beyond the obvious spots like Independence Hall and and the Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center is probably a safe bet. I’ve been to a couple of events there, but never actually seen the exhibits. Theres a big visitor center right on Independence Mall that could probably point you in the right direction.

by kba26 on Jan 15, 2012 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

I think the museum at the constitution center is worth seeing if you have time (if you haven’t been to it, though, don’t sacrifice Independence Hall/walking around the historic section.) If you want to see the historic district, I think the walking tours that leave from the visitors’ center are really educational.

I always say I’m going to get the Mutter Museum (at the American College of Physicians. Lots of medical oddities and history of medicine stuff. Einstein’s brain is on display there) but it’s off the beaten path a little bit from the tourist stuff and I never make it.

Andy Reid vs. Belichick did the Eagles in…I admit that. But it was still a 3 point game. One first down is possibly the difference.

Wow

keep the Haterade flowing… Those poor reigning superbowl champion, 15-1, top seeded Packers couldn’t get a break against the lowly, undeserving Giants (except for the blown Jennings fumble call, or the phantom “blow to the head”). We’re just so LUCKY!!!!

Do you ever take a step back and wonder how what you say actually looks? They beat the Packers in Lambeau, and most of the calls that were questionable were against the Giants. You don’t have to make excuses.
