Week 26 Birds Up, O's Down (September 24 - 30)

Joy R. Absalon-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Let's see who was hot and who was not this week for the playoff-bound Baltimore Orioles.

Rotation

Wei-Yin Chen
Totally possible that fatigue from the long MLB season is catching up to him. In five innings of work, he allowed two homers and 5 earned runs. Location of pitches has been rather suspect of late.

Miguel Gonzalez
He's been outstanding and the Orioles are trying to manage his innings, but will the fatigue catch up to him?

Steve Johnson
Two starts of five innings. Didn't allow a run in the first start....three in the second. If he can return from this knee issue (apparently not serious), he could be useful.

Joe Saunders
Nothing extremely special, but he was reliable over another two starts and figures to be the third starter in the playoffs (should this situation occur).

Chris Tillman
Just continues to impress. Over 8 innings, he held the Red Sox to just one hit and one ER. Is he the team's top option in the rotation?

Bullpen

Jake Arrieta His last four innings out of the pen have been atrocious. Grand slams don't help.

Icon_dash_medium

Luis Ayala Fairly limited action this week: just 1.2 innings (they were scoreless).

Zach Britton DNP

Dylan Bundy Tossed one scoreless inning.

Red-cross-icon_medium

Jason Hammel DNP

Tommy Hunter If he keeps the ball down, he'll continue to see some success out of the pen. He's a capable long reliever.

Jim Johnson 50 saves. I guess that has more to do with the success of the team, but still. 50 saves.

Icon_dash_medium

Brian Matusz Very limited action, but did not allow a run in 1.2 innings.

Icon_dash_medium

Darren O'Day Extra arms in the pen has allowed for more cautious use of O'Day. Smallest inning total (1.1 innings) he's had in a while.

Icon_dash_medium

Troy Patton Back from an ankle injury to contribute two scoreless innings.

Icon_dash_medium

Zach Phillips One scoreless inning

Icon_dash_medium

Pedro Strop Just one inning of work. Possibly a result of his recent struggles.

Red-cross-icon_medium

Randy Wolf He's probably headed toward TJ surgery.
Lineup

Icon_dash_medium

Robert Andino Two for nine....but he did have 2 RBI.

Icon_dash_medium

Xavier Avery DNP

Red-cross-icon_medium

Wilson Betemit DNP

Icon_dash_medium

Endy Chavez Very limited action.

Chris Davis Exception week. Five of his 11 hits left the yard. Also accounted for 10 RBI.

Icon_dash_medium

Luis Exposito DNP

Ryan Flaherty Flahrt had his best week as an Oriole with a 4-15 including two homers (a grand slam!) and 6 RBI.

Icon_dash_medium

Lew Ford Limited action, but apparently dealing with a hip issue.

Icon_dash_medium

Bill Hall DNP

J.J. Hardy Good time for J.J. to get hot. Although his 10 for 27 consisted mostly of singles, he did add a home run. Orioles need him getting on base from that second spot in the lineup.

Icon_dash_medium

L.J. Hoes Saw his first MLB at-bat, but did not record a hit.

Adam Jones Solid .321 week. Added a homer and 2 RBI.

Manny Machado Solid week included a multi-homer game. Impressive from a 20-year old.

Red-cross-icon_medium

Nick Markakis DNP

Nate McLouth Three homers, three RBI, and three walks a part of a 9 for 27 week.

Icon_dash_medium

Omar Quintanilla Hardly played.

Mark Reynolds Rough week at the plate included just 4 hits (one homer). Odd fact: just one strikeout. Seems odd for him considering he only had 4 hits.

Icon_dash_medium

Taylor Teagarden Returned to the lineup and had an RBI.

Jim Thome Steady presence at the DH spot: 6-16 with a homer, three RBI, and 3 BB.

Icon_dash_medium

Steve Tolleson Really shouldn't be getting starts, yet his last two appearances have been at DH.

Matt Wieters First, congrats to Wieters on the birth of his first child. Second, do better. Three for 18 won't work to win the division. Or win in the playoffs.
