It has been about 24 hours since the Orioles 2012 season ended in New York with another hard fought game. As I watched the game last night with my daughter I couldn't help but feel a tremendous amount of pride. Sure the loss hurts all of us who not only rooted this year but the last 15 years and more. Sure the players are hurting and wishing they could have produced a few more runs or stopped a few more from scoring. Those are obvious feelings after a hard fought series and a year that saw so many wonderful and surprising accomplishments. This team went out night after night and worked hard for Buck, themselves and us the fans. I look back and remember the Sunday when I saw Chris Davis pitching and striking out AGon in Boston and Adam Jones hitting a home run to win it. I was out there for the Brooks Robinson unveiling and the way OPACY turned into Memorial Stadium and that continued into the playoffs. The Wildcard win in Texas when no one outside of Baltimore and some inside gave us a chance to win. So many wonderful memories but last night topped them all. I decided to go down and wait for the team to arrive back from NY like I did when they returned from Texas a week before. I arrived around 10:30 and was the only one but that quickly changed. About an hour later you could hear the crowd spelling out O R I O L E S and even doing the wave. I quickly realized why I decided to go in the first place. I didn't want the season to end and wanted to show these guys how much I appreciated what they had done. I wasn't the only one about 500 fans showed up as well. We all came together players, coaches and fans for one last cheer a chance to thank each other, console one anoother for the hurt we felt only a few hours before and to say see you soon. The bus finally arrived around 12:30 and the players and coaches started to walk through a path that formed with fans of all ages on each side. The look on their faces was something I will never forget and I am sure they won't forget the faces they saw. Some of them had family with them and I cant think of anything better than having someone show appreciation for what you have in front of those who love you the most and know what you put into your job. One last cheer for one another, one last chance to say thanks and one last time to enjoy and appreciate the season that was.Moments like last night are never scripted and aren't guaranteed so appreciate it.
Thank You to everyone who in one way or another contributed to a great Orioles season. In my mind yesterday was the end of a season but the beginning of 2013 for this proud franchise and the fans that support them.
