The Orioles find themselves in an interesting position. For the first time in this century the Orioles are entering the offseason with a winning team. And a winning team that is poised to compete for the AL East Crown in the upcoming season. Meanwhile one of the best hitters of the past four years, Josh Hamilton is a free agent. And there have already been rumors associating him (and his wish for a 7 year $175 Million contract) with the Baltimore Orioles. If you look at Hamilton's numbers this past season you see a player who destroyed the ball this year hitting .285 with 43HR and 128RBI. However there is more to his season than just that. Before the All-Star break Hamilton hit .308 with 27HR and 75RBI. BUT... After the All-Star break Hamilton hit an anemic .259 with just 16HR and 53RBI. Combine that with the fact that he has never played more than 156 games in a season (that was all the way back in 2008 too) and I'm not so sure about his future. And thats not to mention that he is also a recovering Heroine addict on the wrong side of 30. Now thats not to say that I wouldn't love to see Hamilton in an Orioles uniform, but not for 7 years at $175 mil. And given the fact that if the Orioles want to add another OF they could get Melky Cabrera, Torii Hunter, or Shane Victorino for way less than what it would cost for Hamilton.
