Who's hot and who's not for the Baltimore Orioles:
Rotation | ||
Jake Arrieta | Obviously the first inning home run wasn't good, but by no means had a bad start. If he keeps his command, he'll be plenty good (and keep the O's in position to win games). |
Wei-Yin Chen | Solid (ignoring another first inning homer) for five innings vs. the Yankees this past week. Wheels fell off in the 6th, but some of that was defense-related.
Jason Hammel | If you only saw the first two inning of his start vs. Toronto, you might have been worried, but Hammel settled down and pitched a solid 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. Of course, Brett Lawrie had a lot to do with that, but.....details.....who needs 'em?
Tommy Hunter | Numbers-wise, the start wasn't awful, but allowing four home runs in six innings is not good. |
Brian Matusz | Sigh. |
Bullpen | ||
Luis Ayala | Picked up a "blown save" for tacking a few runs onto Jake Arrieta's line vs. the Yankees, but otherwise was mostly solid. |
Kevin Gregg | Ugh. | |
Jim Johnson | Four for four with save opportunities this year. Nice not having any 9th inning drama, eh? |
Matt Lindstrom | Blew a one-run Oriole lead on Saturday for his first "blown save" of the year. |
Darren O'Day | Not good in his first Oriole appearance vs. the Yankees, but finished the week strong with two nice appearances vs. the Blue Jays. |
Troy Patton | Struggling some to start the season. Has allowed runs in 3 of his 4 appearances this year, all earned.
Pedro Strop | Did pick up the loss after two innings of work vs. the Yankees, but has delivered three other solid scoreless appearances this season. |
Lineup | ||
Robert Andino | Mashed his first home run of the season on Friday in Toronto and now has 5 RBI. Strikeouts are a bit concerning (10Ks to just 1 walk).
Wilson Betemit | Defense is very, very questionable, as is the bat for the most part, but gets the up arrow for two great ABs vs. Toronto. On Friday, Wilson singled to put the O's ahead for good in the 8th inning. The following afternoon, his 8th inning home run tied the game (the O's would go on to win this game as well). |
Endy Chavez | Pinch-runner and Sunday forfeit lineup addition. |
Chris Davis | Bat picked up at the end of the weekend. In the final two games vs. Toronto, Davis was 5 for 7 with 2 doubles and a home run. |
Ryan Flaherty | Got a start as on Sunday with most of the regulars resting and went 0-3 with 3Ks. Ouch.
J.J. Hardy | Just 6 for 34 to start the season with an OPS of .616 |
Nick Johnson | Has yet to record his first hit as an Oriole in 12 ABs. Got two starts this week and recorded an 0-3 in both appearances. |
Adam Jones | Struggled some during the NYY series (who didn't?), but recovered well in Toronto. A good series there has his average up to .343 and his OPS to 1.052. Solid. |
Nick Markakis | After an outstanding first series against Minnesota, Nicky really dropped off. Failed to record a hit in three games vs. New York and picked up just two more in three games in Toronto (both came in the same game). Does have 6 walks to 6Ks so far.
Ronny Paulino | 7 for 13 to start the season (in three games....although just 1 at C). |
Nolan Reimold | Big series in Toronto for Nolan. 5 for 10 with 2 home runs and 2 doubles. Yep, gotta like that. (Side note: he's day-to-day with "leg cramps.") |
Mark Reynolds | 11Ks and a bunch of errors. We were promised home runs! RBI double vs. New York on Wednesday was the lone bright spot of the week. |
Matt Wieters | Had to debate an up arrow vs. a "no change." Very, very solid series at the plate against New York followed up by an 0-6 with a rest day in Toronto. |
