Greetings Camden Chat!
I'm a longtime member/lurker, infrequent member of the commentariat and long-suffering Orioles fan. I did a quick search for a similar post and, finding none recently, have decided to take it upon myself. The Orioles will close out the season by issuing a bobblehead in the likeness of one of 5 current (we hope) Orioles. The choices are Mark Reynolds, J.J. Hardy, Tommy Hunter, Jake Arrieta and Robert Andino.
I'll keep it brief. Robert Andino is one of us. His life and playing career are both sweetened and embittered with the hatred of the Yankees and the Red Sox. He took his quick bat an rammed it down Boston's throat in September, starting with a clutch eighth inning double against Papelbon on September 20th that cleared the bases and gave the Orioles a 7-5 victory. Six days later he hit an inside-the-park home run against Josh Beckett, bringing home the runners from 2nd and 3rd for a 6-3 win. Naturally everyone remembers the cherry on top of the revenge sundae, but that game would have meant nothing without his previous heroics. He helped give us the absolute sweetest moment in a season marked by malaise, disappointment and family tragedy.
If you haven't yet, you absolutely MUST read this Deadspin article. The man survives, nay THRIVES on inter divisional hatred, and sent Boston's whiny, entitled fans home heartbroken. On September 30th those fans are coming back to Baltimore. Short of having a team that is competitive in the division and filling the stands with hometown fans, I'd like nothing better than for the ticket takers to tell each and every one of the Boston fans within the first 20,000 "Welcome to Camden Yards, here's your complimentary Robert Andino bobblehead!"
