"Markakis broke hammate bone. Surgery tomorrow morning. Not season ending. 3-4 weeks is an estimate." The surgery involves the removal of the hamate bone, as its not crucial (or particularly necessary, apparently) to the functional use of one's hand. He initially injured the hand during a slide almost two weeks ago, and finished the break on his swing Tuesday night.
