Kevin Gausman Impresses in First Pro Appearance

Last night Kevin Gausman made his first professional appearance of his career for the Aberdeen IronBirds, and he certainly did not disappoint. Kevin struck out the first batter he faced, and then proceeded to retire the next eight batters by way of another strike-out, two ground outs, and five fly outs. A perfect game...Well, a third of a perfect game anyways.

Kevin Gausman's fastball consistently hit around the 92-93mph range, hitting its mark often. But one thing that I noticed, from the broadcast anyways, was that Kevin left his pitches hanging over the plate sometimes, which is probably the reason for the five flyouts. If Kevin hopes to succeed moving forward in future, he needs to work on cutting down on fly-balls and replace them with strike-outs or groundballs. Of course Kevin only pitched 3 innings, so it is way too early to tell what type of player he's going to be, but these are just things I took from this game.

I look forward to seeing how Kevin performs in the future, but for now, I congratulate him for his strong showing!
