I've been a fan for about 40 years, I don't live in Maryland, but I try to get to one game a year. I was there for game 2130 and 2131, I selected my confirmation name after my favorite Oriole pitcher, I got thrown out of an upscale hotel bar when Jeffrey Mayer interfered with Tony Tarasco, etc. What I am saying is that I have been a fan for a long, long time.
However, I became apathetic over the past few years when it became obvious to me that the principal owner was not as interested in fielding a competitive team than he was in cashing the checks. I am sure that I am not the only O's fan who feels this way.
Now my question is this: If I am caught up in the excitement of this scrappy O's team, would that be jumping on the bandwagon? I can see both sides of the answer. No, you earned the right to enjoy 1st place on Sept 7th. and Yes, you gave up on the team in their tough times (I didn't really give up on them, I just did not feel any excitement about the playoff possibilities in April).
