Thursday Bird Droppings

Boooooog! - Greg Fiume

What do you mean it's another off day?

Good morning, Camden Chat. The site currently seems to be running smoothly, so hopefully the issues that SBN has been dealing with over the last few days are fixed. I do know that the tech guys have been working nonstop since Tuesday to fix these issues.

With a second off day this week happening today, I know there will be the temptation to go crazy in here. I really hope you'll think twice about getting too spun up about anything. Mark and I are frankly exhausted from having to deal with people acting like children lately (although poor Mark had to deal with all of it yesterday since I couldn't access the site). Neither one of us will be around much today so I urge you all to do a little self policing.

But enough with the preaching, on to the links!

Oriole Bird listed among Forbes' 10 most popular sports mascots - baltimoresun.com
The Bird is the 8th most popular sports mascot, with Mr. Met and the Phillie Phanatic the only baseball mascots ahead of him. Well, so is the San Diego Chicken, but I think once you go freelance you're no longer a mascot.

Orioles Seeking Top-Of-Rotation Starter: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
Let's break it down: O's need pitching but don't really have any prospects to deal. That kind of leaves them in a bind. (I would like one Cliff Lee, please).

PressBox: Boog Powell: Meat Of The Order
A really nice feature on Boog Powell and what he means to the Orioles and Orioles fans. Best quote of the article is by Boog: "The pork here is elegant."

School of Roch: Machado on Machado
As displayed so perfectly in Mark's recap yesterday, Manny Machado is awesome. Roch does a Q&A with the man of the hour.

Chris Davis is on pace with some of the Orioles' best home run hitters | Roar From 34
A look at the best home run hitters in O's history and where Chris Davis fits in.

Happy birthday to former Orioles Dave Philley and Ivanon Coffie. Philley played for the Orioles for a total of four years (two stints) between 1955-1961. Coffie played a few dozen games for the 2000 Orioles and was terrible.

On this day in 1984 the Orioles released Jim Palmer. They wanted him to retire and join the front office, but he wanted to find another team to sign him. He was not successful.
