Week 5 Birds Up, O's Down (29 April - 5 May)

Chris Tillman deals his way to the top of BUODs - USA TODAY Sports

Who's hot and who's not for the Baltimore Orioles

Rotation
Zach Britton Downnew_medium Had allowed just 3 ER in 13+ innings at AAA, but the success didn't carry over to the majors. Britton got knocked around for 6 ER in 6 innings, then was optioned back to AAA.
Wei-Yin Chen Downnew_medium Wednesday at Safeco was easily Chen's worst outing of the year. He failed to get through 5 innings, allowing 5 earned runs in the process. He needed 93 pitches to get that far, issuing 3 walks along the way.
Freddy Garcia Upnew_medium With a long stretch of games with no off day, Garcia got the nod for a spot start and actually pitched pretty well. Didn't miss many bats (2Ks), but was efficient (78 pitches for 6.2 innings) and avoided any major damage. He even took a no-hit bid into the 7th.
Miguel Gonzalez http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Took a loss thanks to a no-show from the bats against a "tough lefty," but was not awful. Was at just 80 pitches after 6 (did not walk a batter), but was removed due to a blister on his thumb. Consider him day-to-day.
Jason Hammel http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png The O's have won all but one of Hammel's starts, despite not getting the best of outings. Hammel notched two victories this week, but wasn't sharp in either start.
Chris Tillman Upnew_medium Easily the O's best starter this week. Allowed just 3 hits (2 BB and 3 K) over 8 innings, stifling an Angels lineup en route to a 5-1 victory.
Bullpen
Zach Clark Downnew_medium Recalled, got hammered, and ended up back at AAA. Not the best week for any Oriole pitcher named Zach.
Tommy Hunter Upnew_medium Another 4 innings of scoreless work.
Jim Johnson http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Allowed a late home run to Albert Pujols in a non-save situation.
Brian Matusz Upnew_medium The fact he's pitching almost exclusively to LHB probably helps.....0.77 FIP against lefties and 5.35 against righties.
T.J. McFarland http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Saw just one game's worth of action, but struck out 3 in 1.1 innings of work.
Darren O'Day http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png He pitches a ton, so that might have something to do with it, but his control hasn't been the same as it was last year. That said, just 1 walk this week.
Troy Patton http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png The WHIP is high and he's got more walks than strikeouts. Still seems to get the job done, however. Sometimes. Usually.
Pedro Strop http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Probably his best stretch of pitching over the young season, yet he still managed to walk 3 batters.
Lineup
Alexi Casilla http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Did not record a hit during his two games this week.
Chris Davis Downnew_medium Injury looked bad at first, yet Davis missed just one game. Even without the injury, the week was already struggle, as Davis went just 4-18. He did, however, draw 4 walks.
Chris Dickerson http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png 3 for 5 in his one game, but I can't imagine he gets much playing time.
Ryan Flaherty Downnew_medium Continues to be pretty bad (OPS sits at just .421). Another month till Brian Roberts?
J.J. Hardy http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Homers in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Adam Jones http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png Pretty average week has his OPS down below .900
Manny Machado Upnew_medium Has adjusted extremely well after a sluggish start. This week, Machado was 10 for 30 with 3 doubles, 3 homers, and 5 RBI.
Nick Markakis Downnew_medium Ugly week for Noodles. Just 6 for 29 (.207) with a CS (and it wasn't even close). Adventures in the outfield, as well.
Nate McLouth Downnew_medium Although he had two homers, the rest of McLouth's week wasn't great. Had just two additional hits and 3 walks in 22 at-bats, dropping his OBP closer to .400
Steve Pearce Upnew_medium Hardly played, but kudos for the game-winning hit in extra innings.
Nolan Reimold Downnew_medium He moved around in the lineup a bunch, but it didn't change the results (4-22).
Chris Snyder http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png 0-4 so far as an Oriole.
Matt Wieters Upnew_medium Not the best week, but definitely better than his previous one. During a .273 week, Wieters added a homer, 4 RBI, and 2 BB.
