My night on the field with the Atlantic League

This is my first fanpost so please bear with me. I just thought this was something my fellow baseball fans might be interested in. Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend an Atlantic Avenue game between the Lancaster Barnstormers and Somerset Patriots. As a Lancaster native I find it hard to get too excited about Atlantic League games since there aren't really any prospects per se. But with Sir Dan's reputation for picking up Indy League players it does add a bit more intrigue.

So some background. I work for a local non profit organization that works with at-risk kids. The Barnstormers hooked up our kids with not only free tickets but the opportunity to join the field with the team during the national anthem. It was pretty cool to see and it made me feel like a kid again. Our students, who come from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds, got to meet former Big League players like Butch Hobson. One of our kids got to serve as 'honorary captain' for the game which led to this amazing moment that I'm sure he will never forget:

Some things I learned at the game. Former Oriole Jake Fox is still playing baseball. Whaddya know? Here is a picture of Fox getting ready to bat. Hard to see I know.

Oh yeah, the Barnstormers have a weird mascot which is a combination of a knock of Philly Phanatic and the Kool aid man.

While it's not the easiest for me to get excited about Atlantic League games they have led to some fun moments. Like a few years ago when all of a sudden I realize "Wait, is that Jay Gibbons on the field?" Indeed it was. At the end of the day it makes for a fun day at the ballpark.
