Baltimore Orioles May in review

USA TODAY Sports

How did the Orioles do in May? I'm ashamed that it took me until June 5th to tell you.

The Baltimore Orioles ended April with a 16-11 record and were in third place in the A.L. East, 2.5 games behind the first place Boston Red Sox. They gained one game on the Red Sox during the month of May (though they've already given it back here on June 5th, which is why I should have started writing this earlier).

May stats:

  • Record: 15-13
  • 142 runs scored (5.07 runs per game)
  • 145 runs allowed - uh oh! (5.18 runs per game)
  • Their longest losing streak was 6 (as we all know too well) and their longest winning streak was 4.
  • They played 9 full series in May (if you count the four games against the Nationals as two series) and they were 6-2-1.
  • The most runs they scored in May was 10, which they did twice. Once was against the Rays in a brutal 12-10 loss and the other was against Toronto.
  • The must runs they gave up was 12, which they also did twice. Once in the above mentioned loss to the Rays, and the other also against Toronto (weird).
  • They had two shutouts in May. The first was on May 12th when Wei-Yin Chen came out of the game after five innings with an injury. The second was just last week when Freddy Garcia threw eight innings against the Nationals.
  • They were shut out once in their lone loss to the Angels out west.

The IR/IS, if you're not familiar, stands for inherited runners and inherited runners scored. It's something I always look at when I want to see reliever stats.
