Standings
The O's remain in third place in the AL East with a record of 61-51. They're six games back of Boston for first place and one game out of the second wild-card spot, behind both Cleveland and Texas.
Results
The O's had a mixed week, going 3-3; 2-1 against Houston and 1-2 against Seattle.
Runs Scored
27, or 4.5 a game, which is pretty good. However, it overlooks the shutout against Houston.
Runs Allowed
36, or six a game. Wow. That is bad.
Best Hitter / Worst Hitter
Chris Davis had a resurgent week, going .238/.292/.667 for a 146 wRC+. Three home runs in 24 PAs will do that to your batting line. He also deserves credit for striking out in only 12.5% of his PAs, coming back to earth after his sky-high 58% strikeout rate last week.
Matt Wieters went in the opposite direction. After looking good initially after the break, he slumped to .118/.200/.294 (28 wRC+). He had only two hits in 20 PA, one of which went over the fence.
Best Pitcher / Worst Pitcher
The best pitcher was undoubtedly Wei-Yin Chen. In two games (14.4 IP) he struck out nearly 24% of the batters he faced while walking just 7% of them.
The worst pitcher this week is Scott Chris Darren Miguel Francisco Feldman Tillman O'Day Gonzalez Rodriguez. This hybrid pitching monster cost the O's several games and nearly cost them another one -- only the offensive outburst saved Chris Tillman's hide from a loss in the game he started.
Crush Davis Update
As mentioned earlier, Chris hit three home runs this week to reach 40 for the season.
Manny's Doubles Update
Manny not only had a good week at .273/.333/.455 (116 wRC+), he hit double number 40 on the season. He leads all of baseball by seven doubles over Matt Carpenter and the AL by eight doubles over Mike Trout and Joe Mauer.
Adam Jones "The Power and the Patience" Update
Jones neither homered nor walked this week. He remains at 22 HRs and 13 unintentional free passes. His 3.1% walk rate is now the lowest among all qualified batters in either league.
Best Batting Eye / Worst Batting Eye
I'm trying something new here ... it may not work out, as we all know who will win these categories regularly.
Jones lead the team this week in swinging and missing at pitches. He did so 17.7% of the time. Nick Markakis, on the other hand, swung and missed just 0.8% of the time. That's pretty amazing; in fact, it's second-best in all of baseball over the past seven days. He didn't miss a single pitch in the strike zone that he swung at.
