This is the end, my friends. No more screwing around with games that don't matter, unless you count that one game on Saturday where the Orioles are going to play the Tides. OK, so that's still one more game to screw around that doesn't matter. But this is the last one that counts in the Grapefruit League, which is such a serious league that the Orioles have had four rainouts that won't be made up and four ties, with the potential for one more. As of the late afternoon, a light rain was falling at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
Being as it is the last spring training game and all, you might think there's a strong resemblance between this lineup and the Opening Day lineup. There's a little surprise Steve in there, with the newly-acquired Lombardozzi popping up at the bottom. How do we feel about Nick Markakis leading off and David Lough batting second? In each case, it's entirely possible there's nobody better. It would be nice if Lough got on base more. It would be nice if they all got on base more. Well, we all want things.
It's the last tune-up before it counts for Ubaldo Jimenez. I have no idea what to expect from that guy when the season starts. We'll start finding out what we're going to get as soon as the second game of the season. I can't possibly imagine what might go wrong from him being wild against that Red Sox lineup, or any of the lineups he'll face as the season goes on. Have a healthy ankle, Ubaldo, and a healthy everything else too.
