Norfolk 6 Columbus (Cleveland) 5
(RHP) Tyler Wilson failed to make it through 6 innings for the first time in AAA, allowing 3 ER over 5 IP. All three runs came in via the long ball, as Wilson allowed a 2 run shot in the 2nd and a solo blast to Cleveland's top prospect (SS) Francisco Lindor to lead off the 6th. He K'd 5, but walked 3. And while he only allowed 3 hits, unfortunately two of those left the yard. (RHP) Robert Coello came in to pitch two strong innings of relief, striking out 3 in the process.
The offense put together two 3-run innings for just enough run support to eek out the win. (1B) Christian Walker led off the 2nd by drawing a HBP. Steve Clevenger would then single to put runners at 1st & 2nd. After a Dariel Alvarez fly out the Tides would string together 3 straight singles to plate the Tides' first 2 runs. Another single later on would drive in the 3rd run of the inning, but a trailing Steve Lombardozzi would then get thrown out at the plate to bring the inning to a close. The 3-run 7th would be keyed by a lead off walk to Francisco Peguero. Lombardozzi would drive in Peguero, and would in turn be driven in by Julio Borbon, who was then driven in by Jimmy Paredes.
Paredes went 2 for 4. Lombardozzi had a 3 for 4 effort as the DH. Walker has now reached base in all 10 AAA games he's played.
Altoona (Pittsburgh) 11 Bowie 0
Bowie took it on the chin here. Matt Bischoff allowed 7 ER in just 2.1 IP. Jake Petit followed by yielding 3 in his 3.2 innings of work. Meanwhile the offense would manged just 5 hits and no walks. Even though 3 of the hits went for extra bases the Baysox were unable to plate any runs. Mike Yastrzemski did manage a 1 for 4 night.
Lynchburg (Atlanta) 6 Frederick 3
(RHP) Sebastian Vader has had a rough go of Carolina League life thus far. After allowing 5 ER over 3 IP in this game his ERA has ballooned to 8.50 over 4 starts. He's allowed 4 HR in that span and walked (13) more than he's struck out (12). (RHP) Dennis Torres provided 4 shutout innings of relief. The 24 year old has quietly had a good season split between Delmarva and Frederick, posting a 2.98 ERA over 57.1 innings of work. ( C ) Wynston Sawyer knocked two doubles. (LF) Brenden Webb went 1 for 3 with a walk and scored twice. (RF) Chih-Hsien Chiang blasted a solo HR.
Delmarva 3 Hickory (Rangers) 5
(LHP) Mitch Horacek came into the day tied with Tyler Wilson for the organizational lead in Ks with 112. Horacek was unable to keep pace with Wilson's 5 Ks, only managing 4 over 5.2 IP while allowing 5 ER via 8 hits. He has, however, put up his now 116 Ks in 20 fewer innings than Wilson, so his K rates are much superior. Already 22, he seems likely to be on a slow & low development plan where he'll spend a full season at each level as he slowly progresses up the organizational chain. But he certainly is an arm to keep tabs on. Speaking of Ks, (RHP) Alex Santana has now punched out 25 SAL batters in 18 IP. He K'd 3 in 2.1 innings of relief while allowing just 2 hits and no runs.
( C ) Chance Sisco did his thing, knocking 3 base hits in 4 at bats. The 19 year old is now sporting a slash line of .348 / .410 / .461. The batting average leads the SAL, the OBP ranks 2nd, the SLG is tied for 17th. (3B) Drew Dosch and (CF) Josh Hart each contributed 2 hit nights. Hart also gave us our nightly Outfield Assist by throwing out a runner attempting to advance from 1st to 3rd on a single.
Connecticut (Tigers) 2 Aberdeen 0
Another game, another shut out for the Ironbirds' beleaguered offense. This marks their 6th shutout in 41 games. ( C ) Alex Murphy has back-to-back 2 hit games now with his 2 for 4 in this one. (3B) Austin Anderson went 1 for 4. (RHP) David Hess tossed 4 shutout innings, striking out 5. (RHP) Luc Rennie followed by K'ing 5 over his 5 IP, but allowed a 2-run HR in the 9th.
