Triple-A: Charlotte (White Sox) 7, Norfolk 1
It was a tough night on the hill for Tides starter Tyler Wilson, who gave up five runs on five hits in only 3.1 innings pitched. He also walked a pair of batters, and two of the hits were home runs. His ERA at the level stands at 3.57. Suk-min Yoon, who could be the next Tsuyoshi Wada, allowed a run in 1.2 innings, while Joe Saunders, the possible Brian Matusz replacement of my dreams, pitched two scoreless.
Tides hitters only mustered three hits in the whole game. One of these was an RBI single hit by Dariel Alvarez, who also walked.
Double-A: Richmond (Giants) 3, Bowie 0
Against the #7 prospect in the Giants system, Clayton Blackburn, the Baysox weren't able to do a whole lot. While Bowie got seven hits in the game, only one of them was good for extra bases. Mike Yastrzemski had two hits, as did Niuman Romero, who had two hits including the lone Baysox double. They only had three at-bats with a runner in scoring position all game.
The Baysox starter was Zach Davies, the #8 prospect in the O's system according to MLB.com. He didn't do so well as Blackburn, although he did strike out seven batters while allowing only two earned runs in 5.1 innings. More impressively, he had eight groundouts to two flyouts. Maybe the defense did him in. Davies, who's just 21, has a 3.03 ERA in his first taste of the Eastern League.
High-A: Potomac (Nationals) 4, Frederick 3 (10 innings)
It was an error-riddled night for the Keys, which is probably what you expect from the Carolina League. They had five on the night, including two by third baseman Jason Esposito. The winning run scored due to a throwing error made by Esposito.
For the Keys, Sebastian Vader allowed a run in six innings and Matt Hobgood gave up one earned run in three innings pitched. Trey Mancini, Jerome Pena, and Wynston Sawyer all had multi-hit games, with Sawyer delivering a two-run homer to give the Keys a temporary ninth inning lead. It was his fourth home run for the Keys.
Low-A: Asheville (Rockies) 3, Delmarva 0
The Shorebirds also ran into a top pitching prospect for a franchise and didn't make out too well. The Tourists' Kyle Freeland is rated the #3 prospect in the Rockies system. He held them to three hits in five innings and struck out six. Those were the only hits that the Shorebirds got in the game.
Delmarva's starter was Bennett Parry, a 40th round pick from 2011. Parry gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks, striking out ten Asheville batters in the process. Williams Louico added three scoreless innings, while Towson University product Nik Nowottnick threw a scoreless ninth.
Short Season-A: Aberdeen 5, Lowell (Red Sox) 2
We have a winner, at last! The Ironbirds made the most out of seven hits, going 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position to take down the Spinners. Shortstop Stephen Wilkerson and catcher Tanner Murphy both had multi-hit games with an RBI each. Austin Anderson and Jamill Moquete also drove in a run each for Aberdeen.
The Ironbirds got a five-inning effort from 2014 11th rounder John Means, who found that he was justified by the ends as he notched five strikeouts and gave up two runs on five hits and a walk.
Gulf Coast: GCL Orioles 12, GCL Rays 3
The GCL Birds scored seven runs in the game's first inning and went on to record 17 hits in the game. That's something of a thumping, to say the least. The big rookie-league O's performer was second baseman Ronarsy Ledesma, who went 2-5 and drove in three runs.
