Durham (Rays) 8, Norfolk 4
The Tides held a 4-1 lead heading into the 6th, but starter Chris Jones faltered and the 'pen melted down. Jones pitched well, striking out 6 while walking just 1 over his 6 innings of work. But two Joey Butler HRs accounted for the 3 run blemish on his line for the night. Once he left, the 'pen went boom. So it goes...
The offense was, almost literally, just 3 players. David Lough went 2 for 4 and scored twice. Christian Walker went 2 for 4 and drove in 3. And Julio Borbon went 2 for 4 and scored a run. The remainder of the offense combined to go 0-20 with 3 walks. That's special.
Bowie 5, New Britain (Rockies) 0
Welp, looks like Chance Sisco is a bust. 0 for 4 with 3 Ks. I kid, of course. Shake it off, kiddo. Trey Mancini furthered his claim to org. player of the year with his 17th overall dinger (10th with Bowie). He went 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Chris Lee K'd 5 over 5.2 IP. And while he limited the Rock Cats to just 2 hits, he did walk 4. Three RPs combined to work 3.1 innings and allow just one baserunner (via a walk). That's pretty good.
Frederick 0, Potomac (Nats) 10
The Keys as a whole walked once and K'd 11 times. welp...Looking for something nice to say...uh...4 RPs combined to work 4 IP over which they K'd 6 while allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk. So that's nice. Moving on...
Delmarva 12, Kannapolis (White Sox) 7
The Shorebirds held a 6-1 lead heading into the 7th. Then a 6 run meltdown allowed Kannapolis to grab a late lead. No worries though. The lads from duck's 'hood just went and put up a 6 spot of their own in the 9th. No Jomar Reyes here. He got hit twice in yesterday's game. I has a sad.
Anywho...(1B) Logan Uxa had himself a day: 3 for 5 with a double and a dinger; 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. His double in the 9th brought in the go-ahead run for the Shorebirds. Max Schuh may not have been charged with any ERs, but he was an active participant in the 6 run implosion in the 7th. A 2-out error by the SS extended the inning before Schuh botched a play himself allowing the first run of the inning to score. A couple wild pitches and a line drive double later and the rally was on.
Staten Island (Yankees) 7, Aberdeen 1 (Game 1)
Lazaro Leyva worked 4 solid innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 ER, 1 walk, and notching 2 Ks. Daniel Ayers' last 3 appearances have been sub-optimal. Combined: 3.1 IP, 11 H, 7 ER, 9 BBs, 1 K. oof. He coughed up 6 R (3 ER) and walked 4 over 1.1 IP in this one.
The offense did much of nothing. Prospects Cedric Mullins, D.J. Stewart, and Ryan Mountcastle each went 0 for 3.
Aberdeen 2, Staten Island (Yankees) 1 (Game 2)
You may wonder why Aberdeen was listed as the home team for game 1 and the away team for game 2. That'd be because Game 1 was a makeup of a postponed game. Cedric Mullins had a better go of it here, going 3 for 4 and swiping 2 bags. He has 16 steals in 18 attempts so far. Each of the 3 Ironbirds pitchers allowed 2 hits and K'd 3.
