Indianapolis (Pirates) 6 Norfolk 5
Terry Doyle had his first real dud of an outing since mid-May, allowing 4 ER over 5.1 IP. The offense was mostly quiet until they put up 3 runs in the 9th. Henry Urrutia homered and Steve Clevenger drove in 2 via a double. Christian Walker went 0-5 w/ 2 Ks and a fielding error. Dariel Alvarez went 1-4 with a walk and a run scored.
Old friends Steve Lombardozzi and Radhames Liz had decent games for Indy. Lombo went 1-5 w/ 2 RsBI and a SB. Liz K'd 6 over 6 IP while allowing just 1 unearned run.
New Hampshire (Blue Jays) 0 Bowie 2
Joe Gunkel K'd 7 over 6.2 scoreless innings and the untouchable Mychal Givens K'd 2 over 2 perfect innings to notch his 15th Save. Trey Mancini got 2 more hits, including his 20th double. He is a lock to be named Minor League Player of the Year at this point. Corban Joseph matched Mancini with a 2-4 night. Mike Yaz and Glynn Davis each took 0-fers.
Frederick 2 Myrtle Beach (Cubs) 1
Save for one outing where he failed to get through 5 IP, David Hess has been dominant his past 9 starts dating back to June 27. In that span he has thrown 52.2 innings and recorded 46 Ks vs 18 BBs and allowed 8 ERs, good for a 1.38 ERA. His overall ERA has shrunk from 5.83 to 3.86. He went 6 IP and allowed just 1 ER in this game. Garrett Cortright and Donnie Hart closed out the final 3 frames with their mutual sub-1.00 ERAs.
Jeff Kemp and Chance Sisco each hit triples, their 4th and 3rd on the season respectively. Kemp added a double while Sisco added a walk and a pickoff of a runner on 3B. Josh Hart swiped his 20th bag of the season and went 1-4.
Delmarva 0 Hagerstown (Nats) 5
Brian Gonzalez was strong through 4 innings, but it all unraveled for him in the 5th. Coming into the inning he had allowed no runs and just 2 singles and 2 walks, and was generating a plethora of groundballs. He quickly recorded the first two outs of the inning before allowing a single. I don't know if this was his specific undoing, but the baserunner proceeded to swipe both 2nd & 3B, possibly breaking Gonzalez's concentration. An RBI single followed, then a walk, then a 3 run dinger.
Orioles?src=hash">#Orioles Brian Gonzalez touched 95 in 2nd; mechanics are very inconsistent; trouble repeating; top and bottom out of sync; flashing avg CH
The offense managed just 4 baserunners, with 2 of those reaching in the 1st before a Jomar Reyes GIDP ended the threat. 20 consecutive Shorebirds were retired between the 1st and the 8th. oof. Reyes took an 0-3 along with that GIDP.
#Orioles Jomar Reyes 70 raw; barrel control; uses entire field; avg bat speed; balanced; impressive yet again in my 2nd viewing this year
Tri-Cities (Astros) 5 Aberdeen 1
D.J. Stewart doubled, stole his 3rd bag, and GIDP'd in a 2-4 night for him. 19 year old 2Bman Alejandro Juvier went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI. Lazaro Levya K'd 2, walked 2, and allowed 2 hits over 3 innings.
