Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Cooperstown

So, I went to The Hall this weekend and it was, as you'd expect, extremely cool. Here's a few pictures of the O's exhibits...

cool cap
I love retro hats.  I personally own a O's throwback cap from the 60s.

me too
And in the case of this reto O's cap, it is doubly good:
a) MOJO. The O's have never won a WS with an ornithologically correct bird. They need the goofy cartoon bird mojo. The more throwback hats worn by fans, the better the mojo.
b) It's the "1988" edition hat. So, whenener things are bad - as they often are - I can look at the hat and say "It could be worse."

amazing
I've never been to Cooperstown, I really need to go!

Nice pics!
The '83 World Series pins are especially cool, in a very cheesy sort of way.

I have that exact same '88 retro hat. I blacked out one side of the last "8" so it says '83.  (I also have a slightly better-made retro cap that might be the '83 version, or it might just be a better reproduction).

Thanks for the pics.
I've never been to Cooperstwon, but need to make the  trip one day. My brother went to Brooksie's induction. I don't recall how he got tickets.

Speaking of pics and hats, I thought I'd post a picture of one of mine based on an early sleeve patch.

That is my favorite O's logo ever.

Super Cool
Some friends and I have reservations for a hotel for HOF weekend next year, but I'm sure it's going to be such a mob scene that we probably won't even get near the O's stuff.

Induction
I'm going to go to Cal's induction if it kills me. I have no idea where I'll stay, etc. but damnit, I'm going. I am really glad I got to go see all the exhibits when it wasn't crowded, though.

Good luck!
We made our reservation during the summer and closest hotel we could find was 40 miles from Cooperstown. Well except for the Holiday Inn in Cooperstown that wanted $400 a night. I love me some Cal, but I'm a poor girl.

Check this out....
....Cooperstown is not too far from a number of Catskills vacation homes.

You could probably find something in Franklin, about a half-hour away. Get an entire home that rents for $1000/week. Make it a summer vacation week with a group of friends, and just drive up to Cooperstown the day of the induction ceremony.

For example, a place like this:

http://www.vrbo.com/47920

It would take some researching on your part, but I bet there's something up there that might be right....

Thanks for the advice.
If I can't convince my dad to make the trip with me, I'll probably go with friends and maybe crash in Lenox, MA overnight. It's about halfway between Boston and Cooperstown and I'll have people to stay with because I used to work at Tanglewood.
That's probably more info than anybody needed.

No, really
what did you do at Tanglewood?

Tanglewood
There are three programs running simultaneously out there. The BSO (pro), TMC (18-30) and BUTI (high school). I managed the BUTI Orchestra for a few summers.

of many facets. :)

My best friend's dad was artistic director at Tanglewood for many years. I've still never been there, but I've heard it's an amazing place.

Not really.
Just baseball fandom, music, cooking, drinking and making fun of people. Those are my talents. Well, the talents that I care to discuss on the internet, that is.

sorry
Guess I opened the door there, seemed like a good idea to leave a comment like that at like, 1 am or whatever. Opened a whole can o' worms, apparently.

The ball....
...is actually from game #1 of 2,632. Which is pretty cool, because how did they know to save a ball from THAT game?

and of course
Ripken, batting eighth at third base, went 0-for-2 with a walk. The Orioles were one-hit by Jim Gott (6 IP) and Roy Lee Jackson (3 IP) in a 6-0 loss to the Jays.

Go Cal!
As an upstate New Yorker, I've been to Cooperstown a couple times and, yes, it rocks. Everyone needs to visit it at least once. I've never been on inauguration weekend, but, of course, I'm there in 07. I'm just going to get up early and drive from my home in Syracuse even though it'll take me a couple hours to get there. Another potential hotel spot for out-of-towners is Utica. It's about an hour away and I'm sure the rates will be much more reasonable. How much better would the day be if we had a decent team next summer?
