That said, LET'S GO O'S. This team has some weird magic to it. ORIOLES magic. I love this team.

Some enchanted evening...
...You may see your bullpen
Pushing out your starters
Across a well-raked mound.
And somehow you know
You know even then
That most days you'll see them
Again and again.

-- Oriole Hammerstein

Orioles magic plus $40 million bucks = 85 wins.

Since April 11th...
The bullpen has allowed just ONE EARNED RUN over the past 28-2/3 innings for an ERA of 0.31!
Now, considering the ways this team has blown money in the past 9 years of crapiness, this has been a very worthwhile investment of $40 million plus.
Chad Bradford is wicked.
Jamie Walker is our new fave redneck.
Baez is a very good setup guy.
Chris Ray is lights out - save one A Bomb from A Rod
Parrish is awesome.
Williamson has been consistent.
No Payton or Ramon, and we're still 10-7.
Keep it up boys...
Took off runnin' but I take my time...

Orioles Magic!
With the way the back end of the line up has come through, and the way it's a different guy delivering the knock out blow every night, it really is good old fashioned Orioles Magic!

When I bought these tickets I had no idea it would be good old Steve Trachsel pitching. Oh well, maybe he'll do good? We're on a roll, after all!

Chacin
Chacin's stats look OK with a 3.57 ERA but he's giving up 2.54 HR/9IP! Let's hope the Orioles bring out the power bats and screw this guy over! All he throws is garbage so let's get about 3 bombs today!

Jays v. Trachsel & Orioles v. Chacin
Rios: never faced
Wells: 1 for 2 with a BB
Thomas: 5 for 12 with a HR, 2RBI & 3BB
Lind: never faced
Overbay: 4 for 8, 1HR, 1-2B, 3RBI, & 3BB
Zaun: 0 for 4 with 4BB
Hill: 0 for 1 with 1BB
Clayton: 14 for 40 with 2HR, 4RBI, 4BB
Smith: never faced

Ouch, that doesn't look so hot. 24 for 67 (.358) and 4.2AB/BB!

Payton: 4 for 8 with a 2B
Mora: 0 for 14 with 2BB
Markakis: 0 for 2
Tejada: 5 for 18 with 2HR & 4RBI
Huff: 1 for 12 with 2B & BB
Millar: 3 for 11
Gomez: 2 for 7 with 3RBI & 2BB
Patterson: never faced
Castillo: never faced

15 for 72 (.208) and 14.4BB/AB and only 2HR! It looks like Payton & Tejada own him and ick for the rest of the team especially Huff & Mora.

Maybe a win here will be bigger than I thought!

Takes his vitamins and loves his mom
That's was the running joke at our seeding meetings for wrestling tournaments when we tried to argue that a guy should be a higher seed.

At some point, you'd get down to "He takes his vitamins and loves his mom" when you knew you didn't have a worthwhile argument -  you just THOUGHT your kid was better, but had nothing to back it up.

Huff is officially in "takes his vitamins and loves his mom" territory now.

Random thoughts
Why is it that Brian Roberts doesn't run balls out a lot of the time? And nobody ever mentions this.

Why can't MASN ever show us a running pitch-count?

Why do they show the SAME commericals over and over? The Nick Markaki (as MelMo called him at the fan-fest thing) commerical is boring now.

Does anyone think that some of the coverage is a bit overkill? Especially Jim Hunter yelling in his blind homerism, Dempsey still not knowing where the cameras are, Manfra just being...terrible, and Palmer just constantly yapping.

Where is the math, myth, legend, Jamie Walker?

by dtuck81 on Apr 22, 2007 3:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And more
Further, why is it they always preach about the "Oriole Way", yet there's a play as we saw on Friday where Gibbons threw to the wrong base?

And, why is it they claim to now be all about the "historical" Orioles, yet only Melvin Mora went to Ellie's funeral? And, further, the older players have offered to help the team, however the team won't have them come in to help.

I know I'm defending the guy, but jeez, would it kill Perlozzo to bat someone else in the five spot? I don't know why anyone would ever groove one to Tejader right now with Huff 'protecting' him.

by NHZ on Apr 22, 2007 3:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That's what I was thinking...
What is Huff "protecting" Miggi from? Having to run hard while on the bases because he knows Huff won't get it out of the infield, or if he does, it's a lazy fly ball?

by dtuck81 on Apr 22, 2007 4:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm going to answer my own question and say...
...that Razor Ramon's absence is why Huff's still in the five spot.

by NHZ on Apr 22, 2007 4:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

it's not
Ramon will probably hit sixth so they can go R-L-R. They think because Huff used to hit 30 homers that that means he still does. Perlozzo, like Mazzilli, is slow to come around on players not being who they were five years ago.

what?
The guy is a slow starter, always has been.  There is a track record here.  And yes, in the past three games, he's had 5 balls hit very sharply, 4 right at defenders, and the other where Wells made a good play.

Probably the worst thing you can do right now is to bench him.  He should be getting days off against tough lefties but like idiots, the FO/Perlozzo has Bynum over Knott right now.

BTW, Sammy had a .786 OPS in April with us...then he started sucking.  He was also 36 years old, and in clear decline.  Huff is 30 and not in decline.  Now, he aint the player he was in 2003, but his peripherals are very close to his 2004 season.  He will heat up.

But I'm glad you and others have given the guy a chance to show what he can do.

SIT HIM NOW before it's too late
He is wasting space in the lineup and we CANNOT afford the black hole of suck that he has become in the 5 hole. We don't need a #5 hitter in two months. We need one NOW.

This is BS - he's a professional. What the hell is going to magically change in two months?

I know "he always is a slow starter." Why, is my quewstion, and why the hell hasn''t he done ANYTHING to improve his spring numbers in the past 5 years?

SIT HIS FAT, OVERPAID, UNDERPEFORMING ASS NOW!!!!!! That damn Sidney-Ponson-with-a-decent-haircut-lookin' clone needs to be out of the lineup up TODAY!

If he gets hot in June, play him in June. BUT SIT HIM NOW!!!!

by duck on Apr 22, 2007 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm guessing...
that if they sit him now he won't magically be ready in June. For whatever reason he needs a couple of months to get ramped up.

Now, dropping him to seventh or so until he heats up I'm fine with, but not with sitting him. For one, he won't be able to get going if he doesn't get a chance. For two the FO doesn't have a good replacement (putting Kevbo in at 1st just means that someone else has to DH, and blah blah blah there's a ripple effect on lineup). For three, from a realistic standpoint, nobody is going to sit a $21 million player in the first month of their three-year contract.

If "flu-lije symptons"
mean full-blown stomach flu, I'd say a few. If you've ever had the "puke every 10 minutes for 12 hours" variety, it's at least 2 days before you fell human again.

A game a few years ago when he had a stomachache and could sit on the bench for the entire game.

I'm not a Roberts fan.

just for this brief moment in time
I love that the O's are pissing a bit on the ESPN Yankees vs. Yankees for the title hype. I've yet to hear any announcer acknowledge that the O's are actually in 2nd and it's not the two Yankee teams atop the division.

Don't know how long it will last.

5:30 pm block of ESPNews
didn't even mention the score by the anchors. I mean, KC-MIN got video highlights, and those overgrown lawnmower engines they call ChampCar got FOUR minutes, but the O's, tied for the most wins in the league, don't get a mention.

Yankee Suckage
So, Mike Lowell just hit a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 7th to put the BoSox up by 2.  Now I'm as much for yankee suckage as the next O's fan, but a little help would be nice from those jackasses.  How are we supposed to catch up to #1 if the spankmees keep getting... well, spanked?!?

We got airtime earlier
Berman interviewed Perlozzo. I only caught the very end of it, though. They talked about Sam's new bullpen toys, about how we toughed out the rough start (a carry over from a bad end to ST, Sam said), how hot we've gotten since then and of course, how bad John Kruk's golf game is. They were all very complimentary about how the team looks this year.

So, what I'm saying is. NO. We will not be talked about in the late show. We got our 5 minutes for the week.

nope, you're right
our five minutes of fame are up. despite the fact we've won 8 of our last 9 games, which i'm sure makes us the hottest team in baseball.

The Bosox hit four home runs in one inning tonight. It doesn't happen often, and they did it against the Yankees, so that makes it even newsier.

But for some reason, ESPN decided to spend a full two minutes showing the four home runs four times late in the broadcast... and just for good measure, they made it into a montage, with the audio being called by the spanish bosox announcer. Yes, you read that right, they showed the entire set FOUR TIMES. 'Cause, y'know, three times wouldn't have been enough.

Being a fan of THIS team
can do that to a person

"Why, why, why did Glenn Davis just HAVE to get in that bar fight?"

"Why couldn't Scott Erickson stay healthy?"

"Why didn't Brady Anderson keep taking, uh, B-12 shots?"

That stuff will keep anyone up at night...

Speaking of Chuck Norris...
...in terms of acting skills, ol' Chuck made Steven Seagal look like Laurence Olivier, which was illustrated once again Sat. night when, for reasons no one could determine, 3 Moscow TV channels ran Seagal movies concurrently (and it wasn't his birthday, I checked). So forget Chuck, who has never been in the frickin' neighborhood of the greatness achieved by Steve, e.g. having Erika Eleniak jump out of a cake topless ("Under Siege").

Various sources are pointing out that this is the first time we have swept the Blue Jays since, um, 1867 or something. I don't want to wake up, please don't pinch me. Wait, that doesn't mean you, Erika.
