Brian Burres - LH Cha Seung Baek - RH
(3-2, 3.08) (3-2, 4.93)
Baltimore lefty Brian Burres, who has fit nicely into the rotation since making the switch from long reliever, will look for his fourth win in six starts. Burres is not a stamina pitcher, as he's only lasted through six innings in one start, but he's held opponents to two runs or fewer four times and has allowed only one home run.
Burres will face Seattle's Cha Seung Baek, another injury-replacement starter. Baek has been steady but not outstanding with a 4.93 ERA in eight starts this season, pitching one complete game but also leaving a game after 3 1/3 innings. Seattle seems to succeed with Baek on the mound, however, as the club is 12-3 in games he's started in the last two years.
Again, it was the Orioles' bullpen which let the team down Monday. Baltimore relievers now account for 15 of the entire pitching staff's 31 losses. The bullpen will have to change that trend if the O's hope to improve their 11-26 all-time record at Safeco Field.
Pitching matchup
BAL: LHP Brian Burres (3-2, 3.08 ERA) Burres beat the Angels with a three-hit performance over five innings of work in his last start.
SEA: RHP Cha Seung Baek (3-2, 4.93 ERA) Seattle handed Baek a seven-run lead by the third inning in his last start, but he was hit for five runs in the fourth inning before picking up the win in 6 1/3 innings.
Player to watch
Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts banged three doubles off starter Felix Hernandez on Monday in a 3-for-4 performance that raised his batting average to a team-leading .329.

Unfortunately
Good start for the offense
Hopefully Burres doesn't pull a Bedard and give back every run that he's given.
HLR: 15-17
I know this can't be really true...
Please do not be decieved
that's bullshit ump!
I saw this replay
Sam: My guy says he was out. He sure looked like it from the dugout.
Ump: I made the call. He was out.
Sam: Oh, OK. No sense questioning a man in blue. Have a good day. (Looks to Millar) He was safe. Next time don't complain.
Does the guy have a pulse?! The team is in the dumps and all he seems to do is, well, NOTHING.

I find myself longing for Lou
I'd also like to see what Lou would have to say about all of the preening that is done by our resident prima donnas. Imagine Melvin calling Lou rude for not informing him that he was getting the day off?

Moscow calling: West Coast games rule!
Nice to see Seattle failing to cope with our own IchiKevbo. And ironically, Burres is doing a nice job through 5 of impersonating Jamie Moyer 2.0 (the Seattle version).
Speaking of blowing breakfast-- and just to see if anybody's still awake out there-- let's move back to the VORP discussion. A more popular definition of the term is
*V*olume *o*f *R*egurgitation upon sighting *P*eterangelos, and the official record is three substantive heaves (chunky style or creamy smooth) followed by a single dry heave (saliva residue only), held by 22 individual fans-- 23 if you count bottle-fed infants on Family Night.
You're welcome. Meanwhile, we're into their bullpen!

Whoa, a cheap run for us!

Ahhhh, y'know I actually feel kind of better.
But hey, it's pretty amazing how you can see it coming a mile away (note comment above) and yet still be both surprised and nauseated by the same movie you've seen what, 8 times in the last 5 weeks?
The human brain is a wonder. Not to mention the lower intestinal tract.

Moscow signing off...
I'm just curious about what would be the most effective order of events-- sort of like Who actually gets it first, second, etc., during the Corleone christening execution rampage, when Michael decides to clean the Family house (and immediate vicinity) in Godather I? The most deserving candidates for a short, one-sided conversation with a 12-gauge over-and-under are
- Angelos
- Sammy the P.
- Baez
- Pretend Commissioner Bud
- G. St*nbr*n*r
a. None
b. Zero
c. Nada
d. Zilcho
5. Pardon me?
