Gameday Thread: Orioles @ Evil Empire, 08/14

Game Time: 7:05 | TV: MASN, YES
Daniel "Nuke" Cabrera, RH Jeff Karstens, RH (8-12, 5.14) (0-2, 10.13) Line ups: B. Roberts 2b M. Cabrera cf C. Patterson cf D. Jeter ss N. Markakis rf B. Abreu rf M. Tejada ss A. Rodriguez 3b K. Millar 1b H. Matsui lf A. Huff dh J. Posada c M. Mora 3b J. Giambi dh R. Hernandez c R. Cano 2b J. Payton lf W. Betemit 1b

I subscribe to the notion that last night, while it sucked, was a good night for the Orioles. They didn't quit, they broke through against pone of the game's best closers, and Samuel even admitted today he shouldn't have sent Mora. Do you remember Trebelhorn ever doing that?

Tonight it's going to be "can you top THIS?" as Danny Cabs and Jeff Karstens (who hasn't started a game since April) try to see who can serve up more runnage.

Oh yeah, and Yankee Stadium still sucks.

Go O's!

Remember, the Orioles' half of the seventh...
it brought to you by Jack Daniels' Old No. 7.

Believe it or not...
I believe the Yanks have been having trouble hitting Carbrera...remember his Danny's last start last season against the Yankees that was a 1 hitter?

64 pitches so far for that Yankees clown??

if Brower actually gets out of a inning w/o giving up a run. Yankee fans deserve the unique pleasure that is watching this guy pitch for your team.

I can tell you one difference between the Yankees and the O's. He'll be released immediately instead of trotting out there almost nightly.

Dempsey is a fucking idiot
After ranting how Clemens fucked the Yankees by getting suspended, he complaining that Cabrera didn't retaliate.  This game is a prime example of when not to retaliate.  Why shoot yourself in the foot when the game is in a bag?  I wholly agree that the Yankees have a couple of hit batters due to them... but damn, Dempsey needs to just listen to himself.

Nice night! I just wish the AP story...
hadn't made it sound like Jeez, the poor Yerkees had to play when their minds and hearts were elsewhere...

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees are used to blowouts at home, just not this way.

After observing a pregame moment of silence in memory of Hall of Fame shortstop Phil Rizzuto, the Yankees were taken out of the game early by Daniel Cabrera and the Baltimore Orioles' bats...

#######################################################################################

Look, they got beat, and beat bad. RIP Phil Rizzuto, now presumably in the Great Money Store in the Sky, but I don't see how his passing figures in sentence two of a wire service story. (If the Yerkees had lit Daniel up, would the story have run "Inspired by the memory of..."? Please.)

NB: Rizzuto was a very good player (though not Hall caliber, of course-- but let's not start), an interesting (idiosyncratic) play-by-play announcer, who for better or worse spoke his mind, and by most accounts a decent man in the bargain. I assume he'll get more recognition than last evening's nod-- maybe a commemorative Day at the Stadium -- and I'm all for that.

Meanwhile, and speaking of idiosyncratic, D-Cabs
does his Good Danny thing, with just enough BoBoBoBoBoBad Danny to remind us of his signature Achilles heel. (How you sign anything with your heel is a mystery to me, but D-Cabs does it.)

And now, live from Canada, this series victory is brought to you by BUH DARD BUH DARD BUH DARD.

On y va! Go O's!

Hey Petey: enjoy THIS!
