Enter to WIN an opening day prize pack

Just a heads up, over at BSR we're giving away an Opening Day Prize Pack. Entering the contest is really easy. Good Luck!

Proof Someone's Worse Than Us

Now THIS is embarrasing. The Pirates AAA squad (basically) got beaten by a community college. Ouch.

Driveline Mechanics Ranks the AL East Starting Pitchings Staffs by WAR

It's the last in a series I did covering all of the MLB projected starting pitching (including spot starters) using BP's playing time forecasts, FIP derived from an average of PECOTA, CHONE, and ZiPS projections, and some other stuff. The Orioles pitching, of course, isn't... looking so good at the moment, and Hayden Penn is out of the picture since he left after I wrote the article, but don't blame me, I just did the spreadsheet(s) and made the dumb jokes. Hey, at least they're cheap and the front office is on the rise (seriously)! I've irrationally liked Mark "Lurch" Hendrickson since his days as a Blue Jay...

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Orioles traded former top pitching prospect Hayden Penn to the Florida Marlins on Wednesday for utility infielder Robert Andino. Penn, a 24-year-old right-hander who made his major league debut in 2005 as a 20-year-old, wasn't going to make the Orioles' roster and he was out of options, facilitating the trade. Given an opportunity to make the Orioles' Opening Day roster this spring, Penn went 0-3 with a 10.05 ERA, allowing 27 hits and walking six in 17 innings. Andino, 24, has hit .201 (29-for-144) with two homers and 12 RBIs in limited action over the past four seasons with the Marlins. He was drafted in the second round in 2002 and touted as the Marlins' shortstop of the future, but Florida acquired Hanley Ramirez in a trade with Boston in 2005, moving Andino down the organizational depth chart.

Sorry, Z, this one's true: Penn to Marlins

Penn came out of the game after allowing a run-scoring single to Yadier Molina. That's six runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings, and Molina is his responsibility at first base. Update: Simon In, Penn Out Manager Dave Trembley confirmed after today's 7-3 loss to the Cardinals that Alfredo Simon has made the rotation and Hayden Penn has been eliminated from consideration. If Penn can't beat out Brian Bass for a bullpen job, he'll need to be traded or put on waivers

Penn stinks it up today. Way to ruin your big chance, Hayden. Again.

O’s make the right call by waiting for Wieters

This is news? Haven't we, and everyone else in baseball, been saying this for the better part of a year (or more)?

Split Personality

Towards the bottom is a blurb on Baez using his split-finger again. He thinks that's what killed his arm, but now his arm "feels fine." If your career is on the way out anyway, I suppose you might as well beat up your arm trying to stay in the league.
