  Baltimore Sun says we sent down McCrory. I expect Cintron in the line-up tonight with Boom Boom and B-Rob taking the day off. I expected Salazar, but with B-Rob's foot injury, they were forced to bring Cintron up. Boom Boom, you are officially on the clock, if you don't produce then your competition is already here.

&lt;div class="entry-body"&gt;
  First baseman Kevin Millar had a big smile on his face and a helmet turned backward a few hours before the game as he prepared to catch Guthrie in a bullpen session. But when club management found out that one of their starting infielders was going to attempt to catch a big league pitcher, and potentially risk an injury, they pulled the plug.

Millar playfully stormed back into the clubhouse and shook his head.

"It got banged," Millar said in mock disdain. "I'm a franchise player. They lose me, boys, the Cinderella story's over."

      <description type="html">
&lt;div class="entry-body"&gt;
  After a highly successful run with the Atlanta Braves, Mazzone left for Baltimore after the 2005 season. He received a hefty raise and got to work with his best friend, Sam Perlozzo. But if he had it to do over, Mazzone would accept whatever Atlanta offered and assume his customary place in the dugout next to Braves manager Bobby Cox.

"At the time it was a great move, but now I regret it. You see the difference in organizations and how things are run and, believe me, the Atlanta Braves are about as good as it gets," Mazzone said.

"I got a chance to go back to my home state. My dad&#8217;s 86 and my mother&#8217;s 81, and they got to see me more in two years than they had in the last 16. Then I have three boys that live up in western Maryland. So we were able to get a lot closer. That part of it was good. But now, as I sit here on my back porch, I second-guess it."

He&#8217;s out of the game and desperate to get back in. He has no expectations of matching his salary with the Orioles, and won&#8217;t subject a would-be employer to dealing with an agent. If you want Leo Mazzone to be your pitching coach, just dial him up and make an offer.

"I&#8217;ve let it be known to general managers in the big leagues that money is not an issue. I don&#8217;t want them thinking it is," he said. "I&#8217;m ready to bounce whenever somebody calls. I&#8217;ll have my bags packed in 10 minutes."

  Says, in part:
"New York's teams do have the injury bug. The Yanks were tied with the Rangers for most players on the DL (nine) when April ended and the Mets were at seven. Still, the outbreak is not quarantined here. Teams had disabled 178 players (up significantly for the same period for a second straight year) and had lost 4,132 games through April. "

Am I idealizing the past, or did players not break down so much in the day? Or did the players that broke down not make it onto the more limited number of MLB teams? I remember pitchers burning up (I was at Memorial on the day Mark Fidrych remembers his arm going dead, never to return) but position players not so much. Is there a historical stats page where you can compare DL times over the years?

  Still seeking shortstop depth, the Orioles plan to have Freddie Bynum play the position for a while at Double-A Bowie. Bynum, who had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee in March, began a rehabilitation assignment last night.

"I think right now he's going to play shortstop in Bowie, and we're going to evaluate him," said Trembley, who isn't sure how long Bynum's rehab stint will last. "We're going to have our scouting people go in there and look at him as a shortstop and see where he's at."

  Interesting article on how drastic a turn around pace the Rays are on. It's a stretch to think they'll lop off 290 runs from last year, but they are going to make some noise. We just saw how far the O's have to go...

Paraphrasing a Simpsons quote: See all that talent over there, Pete? That's why your teams never worked.
