Vote for XFINITY's next sports social media personality.

Hey Camden Chatters, you might remember awhile back I posted about contest that XFINITY is having to find that one person who best meets the qualifications to become the Ultimate Sports Social Media Guru (maybe that's not the official name, I don't know). Well, the contest is over and now you can vote on the winner at XFINITY's Facebook page. If you're wondering what in the heck is XFINITY, they also go by Comcast. I don't know. Anyway, if you're interested in seeing the contestants who entered the contest, read XFINITY's official blurb in the block quote below.

Have you ever watched one of those TV shows where from thousands of hopefuls, one star is born? Well, Camden Chat readers, here's your chance to play "starmaker" and help pick the new voice of sports in social media!

The winning candidate will serve as the new voice of XFINITY in the sports social media space and go behind-the-scenes at some of the biggest sporting events in 2012, sharing exclusive insights and updates with fans.

From February 9-19, you can review qualified entry videos and vote for the contestant you'd like to see advance to the finals of the XFINITY Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest. Do you like fantasy baseball? Check out Yahoo Fantasy!

It's getting to be fantasy baseball season, so Yahoo has purchased this space to remind you that Yahoo has the best fantasy sports out there. I've played on CBS Sports, Yahoo, and MLB.com, and Yahoo is head and shoulders above those other two in quality and in ease of use. They didn't pay me to say that, I actually believe it! They did pay me to say what's written below, so take a peek, won't you? Or just scroll down really fast and pretend like you're fast fowarding on your DVR.

  • Yahoo! Sports is the leading fantasy provider and home to the #1 Fantasy Baseball game available – all for free! It brings fans closer to the game and players they love with free live scoring, mock drafts, mobile apps, over 80 scoring categories, live and offline draft apps, and tools to manage your keeper league.
  • Yahoo! Sports now offers the fantasy fanatic an even more competitive way to play, Pro Leagues are here! Join a Pro League for $20 or $100 and compete to win cash prizes. For those who dare to put some skin in the game.
  • Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '12 is easy and fun to play for the rookie or veteran fantasy user.
  • Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball provides fans with top-notch information, resources, and expert advice.
  • Yahoo! Sports provides pre-draft advice clips to help you draft the best team possible. Fantasy advice is also available throughout the season with bi-weekly video clips and weekly radio coverage on the Fantasy Freaks (every Friday 8pm-10pm ET).
  • Fantasy baseball is the original social network, it is the way friends stayed connected over America’s pastime no matter where they were, Yahoo! Sports continues the tradition by letting fans talk smack talk, check'in, and chat on newly launched message boards.
  • Game opens 2/9/12 – get ready to play ball!

Camden Chat at Orioles FanFest

This Saturday from 11am-6pm is Baltimore Orioles FanFest at the Baltimore Convention Center. The event actually starts at 10am if you are a season ticket holder, as you can enter early for a season ticket holder-only Q&A with Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette. The complete schedule of events can be found here. Don't mind the upside-down part, I think that's so you can fold the paper you print in half or something.

Initially, I was planning to try to facilitate a site get-together, but I have since discovered that I get a press pass for the event. I'll be acting like a real journalist for the day, except with better eating habits and fewer polo shirts. Also, I have never been to FanFest before, so I couldn't say when is a good time or where is a good place to try to meet up and hang out. Don't let that stop the rest of you from planning to hang and get some lunch or whatever strikes your fancy. There are going to be a decent number of CCers roaming the premises.

Yours truly will be representing this site on the Bloggers fan forum from 5:25-5:55 alongside several other O's fan bloggers. I can't offer any guarantees that this will actually be interesting, but hopefully it will be. At any rate, by the time the blogger panel happens, most of the other parts of FanFest will be winding down, so maybe you can come listen.

Whether you're going to be at FanFest or not, be sure to follow me on Twitter - @EatMoreEsskay - as I will be planning to fire off tweets for anything especially noteworthy. I'm not planning to live-tweet each and every comment from every panel, but I will try to pass along funny anecdotes or interesting answers when I can. Also, I will be tweeting when players or coaches are meeting with media back stage and people can send me questions, which I may actually get the opportunity to ask.

Let people know if you are going to be there in the comments. Maybe I will see you there!

The Ultimate Sports Social Media Job Contest

Hi Camden Chatters. This is obviously not your typical post, but I hope you'll indulge me for a bit because it might actually be something that some of you could be interested. Comcast/XFINITY is holding a contest for a new social media person. I figured it doesn't hurt to clue y'all in to the contest (and collect a few bucks on the deal), so read the block quote for the details. The winner gets a one-year job working for XFINITY as their sports voice on Facebook, the Twitter, etc. Not bad.

Have you ever wanted a shot at winning your dream job in sports social media? Here’s your chance – XFINITY is launching a nationwide contest to find the next sports social media star to serve as the voice of XFINITY behind-the-scenes at the biggest sporting events nationwide in 2012.

The contest is called "Xfinity Presents: The Ultimate Sports Social Media Job" and runs from January 13th through March 25th. The winner will receive a one-year salary, all the electronics for the ultimate sports pad, and will have the opportunity to share thoughts, insights, and content with fans nationwide via the @XFINITYSports Twitter handle on a daily basis. This is truly a dream job opportunity for anyone looking to make a name for themselves in the world of sports and social media.

Here’s how it works:

From January 13 – February 6, you can log on to Facebook.com/XFINITY and submit a :30-2:00 video on the Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest tab that shows why your sports knowledge, social media expertise, personality, and passion for Comcast products and services makes you the perfect candidate for the job.

The top video submissions will be featured on the Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest tab located on Facebook.com/XFINITY for fans to vote on from February 9-19. The five entrants who tally the most votes will advance to the final round of the contest where they will cover one of five premier sports events the weekend of March 8-11. Following that weekend, a panel of judges will evaluate each performance and announce the winner of the contest by March 25th!

Head today to Facebook.com/XFINITY and click on the Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest tab for all the details, as well as contest rules. Enter soon, as February 6th is the deadline for video submissions! Thanks to Camden Chat partner XFINITY for bringing this opportunity to our readers.

We interrupt your Orioles talk for a comment on off-season conduct

Please note this isn't in response to anything specific that has happened so far, but given the general tenor of a few conversations in the open threads so far this off season and experience from off seasons past, I thought it appropriate to throw out a few guidelines for the next few months.

I know that without much actual baseball to discuss, we tend to get antsy and the open threads take on a life of their own as any and all subjects get argued and people get heated. I know that some of you think this is a hoot, but a lot of other people, myself included, do not. It creates a tense atmosphere and a hostile environment for anyone not in the group who participates in these heated off-topic discussions. You might not care about that, but I do. I want everyone to to feel as welcome as possible, and that doesn't exactly create the kind of atmosphere that I'm interested in having here.

So, as the off season drags on and the randomness of the open threads ensue, here are some quick guidelines:

  • If you find yourself typing something that makes you think, "Should I be typing this?" the answer is probably no.
  • Address the argument, not the person. That means you are not at liberty to tell people they are stupid because they disagree with you, or that they should go to hell, or anything else inflammatory about a person. This line gets crossed way too often around here and I'm putting down the hammer.
  • I know some of you think it's adorable to purposely bring up controversial topics, but do us all a favor and use some discretion.
  • If you find yourself and another person saying the same things over and over and over to each other with no new information, be the bigger person and just stop replying.
  • If Eat More Esskay, Andrew_G, duck, zknower, the long lost 2632, or I tell you to chill out, chill out. Seriously. And if we ask that a certain topic be dropped or not discussed, pay heed.
That's it. Basically, don't be a jerk. It's not that hard, I promise. We're not going to ban anyone (unless they really don't get a clue), but we won't hesitate to hand out one-day vacations to anyone who gets so worked up that they disrupt the site. I don't want to have to do that, but I remember how ugly things got at the end of last off-season, and I won't go down that road again.
