Recap: Kansas City vs. Chicago WSox

Sports Network | September 20, 2008

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer as Kansas City topped Chicago, 5-2, in the middle contest of a three-game series from Kauffman Stadium.

Kila Ka'aihue belted his first-career homer, David DeJesus also went deep and Mike Aviles knocked in a run for the Royals, who have won eight of their last nine games.

Kyle Davies (8-7) picked up the win, allowing three hits and two runs over seven-plus innings in his start.

Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run homer for the White Sox, whose lead the AL Central remained 2 1/2 games. Second-place Minnesota also lost earlier Saturday, 7-2, to Tampa Bay.

Gavin Floyd (16-8) was tagged for eight hits and five runs over 6 1/3 frames, his second defeat in his last three starts.

Gordon's two-run homer in the second put the Royals on top, then a DeJesus solo shot in the third made it 3-0.

Ka'aihue blasted his first-career home run into the right-field seats with one out in the seventh, and later in the frame an Aviles double pushed the Royals' lead to five.

Ramirez finally put the Sox on the board with a two-run homer just over the wall in left-center for a 5-2 game in the eighth. John Bale came on and retired the next three batters in order.

Joakim Soria worked around a walk and an infield single in the ninth to record his 41st save.

Despite the setback, the White Sox lead the season series, 11-6...Chicago leads the major leagues with 222 home runs...Davies won for the third time in his last four outings...Floyd allowed three home runs in the contest for the second time in four starts.
