Recap: Milwaukee vs. Philadelphia

Sports Network | October 04, 2008

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - J.J. Hardy finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, as Milwaukee stayed alive in the playoffs with a 4-1 win over Philadelphia in Game 3 of their National League Division Series from Miller Park.

Jason Kendall added two hits and also knocked in a run for the Brewers, who were facing elimination in the best-of-five set.

In addition, it was the franchise's first postseason win since October 17, 1982 -- in Game 5 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Milwaukee has the opportunity to knot the series on Sunday, as Game 4 is slated for 1:07 p.m. (et). Jeff Suppan is scheduled to take the mound for the Brewers, facing Philadelphia's Joe Blanton.

Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder each drove in a run, while starter Dave Bush (1-0) scattered five hits and a run over 5 1/3 innings. Salomon Torres survived a scare in the ninth to record the save.

Ryan Howard knocked in the lone run for the Phillies, who failed to end the series. They're still a win away from reaching the National League Championship Series for the first time since 1993. Jayson Werth doubled, tripled and scored in the loss.

Jamie Moyer (0-1) lasted only four innings, allowing four hits and a pair of runs, walking three and fanning three. He threw 90 pitches in his outing, the shortest since a three-inning start in an August 26 loss to the Mets.
