Twins P Neshek to miss 2009 season after Tommy John surgery

Sports Network | November 11, 2008

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday that reliever Pat Neshek will undergo ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow and will likely miss the entire 2009 season.

No date has been announced for the procedure most commonly referred to as "Tommy John" surgery.

Neshek, in his third year in the big leagues, appeared in 15 games for Minnesota in 2008 before suffering an elbow injury in May. He finished 0-1 with a 4.73 earned-run average and 15 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings.

The 28-year-old re-injured his elbow in an offseason throwing session and underwent an MRI Tuesday that revealed a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.
