Twins acquire P Guardado

Sports Network | August 25, 2008

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins strengthened their bullpen Monday, acquiring pitcher Eddie Guardado from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league pitcher Mark Hamburger.

The 37-year-old Guardado appeared in 55 games for the Rangers, going 3-3 with four saves and a 3.65 earned run average. This will be Guardado's second tour of duty with Minnesota. Originally drafted by the Twins in 1990, the left-hander spent 13 years in the organization from 1991-2003.

Guardado was named to two All-Star teams and recorded a pair of 40-save seasons during his initial tenure with the Twins when he earned the nickname "Everyday Eddie."

For his career, he is 44-58 with 187 saves and a 4.27 ERA in 851 games (25 starts) for the Twins, Mariners, Reds and Rangers.

Hamburger, 21, was 1-2 with 13 saves and a 4.17 ERA in 27 appearances with Elizabethton of the Appalachian League.

In a related move, Texas also purchased the contract of pitcher Bill White from Triple-A Oklahoma to take Guardado's spot on the roster.
